11 335 axle noise?
Hi all, pretty soon after I put on new tires my car developed a fairly audible clunk clunk noise that sounds like it rolls with the car when slowing down 10-0 or when making slow turns. I can hear a clunk on the drivers side with the windows down when going over a speed bump. Usually it's hard to hear past 10mph. But every once and a while at speed I'll hear it but it doesn't clunk as fast as the wheel rolls if that makes sense. No vibrations or odd driving feel. Jacked the car up and moved the wheels all around. No wiggles or signs of a failing wheel bearing. The only thing I could see out of place was some moisture where the axle meets the diff. Any ideas? Couldn't hear it when pushing the car while in neutral in my garage.

That's a seal leak there. Check to see if your front diff oil is bone dry.
It has three seals. Input and two output. All are easy to replace. For input, you take out 8 bolts (replace) and drop shaft. Pull out the flange after removing nut. Need a puller For output, you disconnect strut from front spindle, wiggle out shaft from spindle, use large brass punch to punch out the shafts and replace seal. Look at my over haul thread. Replace all fasteners on reinstall |
