Do you think there will be more pressure drop in the 7.5" HD, or less ?

Really interesting tread.
I do a lot of hdpe event with my 335i. I bought 3 years ago the active autowerke race version with the shroud and everything. Do you think the Wagner competition it's better? I upgrade all my cooling with csf rad and the race oil cooler from evolution racewerk. N55 PS1 PS2 soon E90 Thanks! |

Since you are upgrading your turbo, i recommend Wagner EVO III or VRSF 7.5" Race

Im about to do the standard install of all the bolt ons ( pod filter intake, charge pipe vrsf, catless downpipes vrsf, exhaust corsa, Precision Raceworks ignition kit, mhd tune and front mount vrsf competition stepped ) and have a question in regards to the front mount side of things. When puting all these parts in should i be changing the stock intercooler piping? I will have standard turbos still. This great group is full of knowledgeable people and hope I can get some info or ideas for anything extra that should be done!!

Does this 7,5'' thick core clear ACC unit (active cruise control - radar)?

Unfortunately anything larger than a 5" will not fit the ACC. |

I'm tired of people claiming that 7"+ intercoolers on stock turbos don't show any lag. That's nonsense. From a physics standpoint alone, the 7.5" is like twice the volume of OEM, so obviously it takes the turbos longer to fill it with air, esp. at the low end of psi range / low RPM. Doesn't matter how wind-tunnel-tested, or hamster-safe, or whatever your end tanks are. I bought the VRSF 7.5" HD after every vendor told me there'd be no noticeable difference. And guess what? The lag is very noticeable down low in 2nd. I'm running VRSF CP, DP, MHD 2+. It bothers me enough to consider swapping it out for a well-designed 5", because I want my 2nd gear to be explosive and I'm "sensitive" enough to feel the difference. I also noticed my max oil temps went up by 10-15 degrees after install. Could be the higher psi, sure, but I suspect the restricted airflow to the rest of the system (e.g. radiator) that is now blocked by the humongous FMIC isn't helping. |

He probably has a boost leak.
He should show a log before and after IC if he wants to make that claim. Even if it did add lag(it doesn't) the cooling gains and being able to run more boost and timing would outweigh any lag(which there is none).

I'm referring to building boost from scratch (e.g. daily driving, not track). So going from 0 to 10-15psi say in 2nd gear. If you start at 2500rpm and floor it, the difference to me is very noticeable. It takes much longer to build boost.

Stage 1: https://datazap.me/u/slay/third-run-...og=0&data=3-22 Stage 2+: https://datazap.me/u/slay/stage-2-75...og=0&data=3-21 Running more boost doesn't make a damn bit of difference when you still have to build that boost from 0. The turbos aren't spinning any faster and now you have more IC core volume to fill before air hits the other side. With your logic, we could build a tunnel to Tokyo with a giant turbo on one side, put people into capsules and boom -- we just invented teleportation! Air will instantly arrive on the other side and people pop right out! No lag, right? Or maybe the laws of physics don't apply to intercoolers? |

First log (stg 1): Time - 227.62, Boost psi: -1.1 Time - 228.32, Boost psi:+12.1 0.70 seconds Second log (stg 2) Time - 98.17, Boost psi: -1.1 Time - 98.96, Boost psi: +17.5 0.79 seconds So what you are saying is you "feel" the 0.09 seconds of lag?
