If you put a bead of silicone round the edge first you don't need an adapter, then put some more silicone on 2 minutes before the driver goes in, this will make it completely air tight.

Update Again!!!
So I was messing around with my amp now, increasing my bass boost and gain by only 1/5 or so and while inside the car, its sounds very clean and crisp still...but when i stepped out of the car and closed the doors...shit, the car freakin rattles like a mofo. Im assuming since i increased the gain, it made the subs hit much stronger. I mean inside the car, you dont hear any rattling/distortion at all. So i bought another dynamat set and this time im gonna dynamat the hole where u place in the sub enclosure, hopefully thats the problem. You hear the rattling more near the side skirts too, so it has to be that hole...right?

when my sister got her e92 last year, i heard alot of rattling from the sideskirt area (1/3 from where the mirror is, horizontally)... unfortunately the dealership fixed it, so i dont know the root of the problem.

When you say dynamat that hole, do you mean inside it?? Or cover it??
You don't want to take up too much space as that is your enclosure, and definitely don't cover it. Bass Boost is a horrible thing, it boosts the frequencies at a certain range, usually somewhere between 50-80hz, this may well cause extra vibrations, I would take the bass boost off completely to try and get a flatter response. |

^^^the place where u put in the enclosure, thats the hole im gonna try to dynamat, I forgot how it looked like but i'll take a pic once i try to dynamat it next weekend, if it doesnt work, then it doesnt work
So bass boost is bad huh, ok i'll put it to the lowest then then adjust the gain if needed. Thanks for the tip. |

Hey Lazy, would the Pioneer Premier 8" SMS work?
It's mounting depth is 2-1/2". How can I find out more info on the stock subs? TIA!

Actually the Pioneer 8" shallow subs sound pretty good in the right enclosure -just not in the OEM enclosure- and sound much better than the SWS-8 in a free air mount... I know because I have both.

Well I heard it in a .5cu ft enclosure and hated it, was all upper mid bass, in fact in a parcel shelf they sounded OK, but still not great, just don't go anywhere near as low, but that could have been his install of course?

The Pioneer shallow 10" sub, in the other hand, is much better going to < 30Hz in the same enclosure size (I have that one too). |

As of right now? Yeh I think the SWS-8 subs are the best option for direct replacements. Before I even heard of the SWS' i really wanted to place in the JL 8w series but its mounting depth was too big I wonder how the stealth box is gonna look on the e92s.

Just replacing the OEM subs with the current SWS-8 subs without an aftermarket amp will in effect reduce the effective power of the HiFi OEM amp sub outputs in half, as the SWS-8 are 4 ohms subs; the OEM subs are 2 ohms.
In other words, you will hear much less bass with the SWS-8 than with the OEM subs that you have right now. This will be a downgrade. This doesn't apply to the Logic7 system, as its OEM subs are 4 ohms. SWS-8 in 2 ohms version are expected to be offered soon. |

knowing I will use an Xtant 2200i Amp with a real 400Wrms, do you feel the SWS8s would sound better then a single 10W6 in the trunk? I have purchased the SWS8s and I have prewired the car already for the instalation but I'm hesitant on using these |

The main difference between the two is that the Pioneer doesn't "complain" when fed frequencies below 32 Hz, as the SWS-8 does. So I can feel more bass better at medium to high volume. Unless there is a particular 8" subs somewhere that performs better than a 10", under the same conditions a 10" will always outperform an 8". Check the specs: 10W6: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/8-12W6_BDS.pdf SWS-8: http://www.earthquakesound.com/IMAGE...sws_manual.pdf Don't get me wrong, the SWS-8 does its job in the 8" bracket. But compared with a 10" there's no comparison. That's the reason that there is a SWS-10... up to a SWS-15. |

Technic,
if we try to custom made a sub box under the seat for SWS-10, do you suggest making it ported like the original OEM BMW 8in sub box, or make it a sealed one... and have you ever compared the SWS-10 and the Pioneer 10" shallow sub? Which one is better? I remember reading your post somewhere in here saying that SWS-8 and Pioneer 8" shallow sub.On that post you prefer the SWS-8 over the Pioneer with the same size... but how about SWS-10 and Pioneer 10"? Thanks |
