manual Gearbox
If manual gearbox GS6-53DZ - THGX on e92 335 2007 shift hard is it common problem with gearbox or i should seek for problem on shift stick?
Gearstick doesnt have smooth shifts between gears. If it is gearbox is it expensive to repair it? |

is it something that you've just noticed or its been there since you own the car ?
you feel the gear getting in hard on those car, I mean 'harder' than a corolla or even most audis. Something between a kawasaki bike and a audi a4. But changing fluid is indeed one of the first step. Pretty simple. redline MTL do the job. |

notchiness can be tamed down or even eliminated
by using Redline D4 or D6 . See the redline oil site for the recommended gear oil. How many miles and I bet its never been changed. |

I also had troubles with shifting. Especially problematic was finding first gear. Occasionally couldn't get into 5th. It was less noticeable in the beginning but progressed over time.
All gears went in very good when engine wasn't running. Gearbox oil change didn't help as much as i hoped (indeed it was really dirty, probably original one that had over 400k km on it) - same symptoms persisted. That put me thinking towards clutch because starts with first gear were always little different compared to other cars. Not smooth enough. Now with new clutch all gears go in like cutting butter with hot knife and it's once again fun to drive. You could test the clutch by finding a hill and try to move car towards uphill by slowly teasing the clutch. If it stutters or does some wonky weird jumps then quite possibly clutch is worn. |

Unless the pressure plate and fork were dead, most of the time is because the clutch cylinder was bleeded during the clutch change. easy steps op can do : - thransmission oil flush - clutch restricting valve delete - bleed. - shifter linkage adjustment / replacement worst case, syncros are bad, and I had this issue last summer on my audi, I had to put a new transmission. It was 'cheap' tho, 400$ for a quattro transmission and 400$ of labor in a VW specialist. |

Even newer B8 audi 2015 transmission are cheap. There's a ton in scrap yards, and most of them are manual. very very reliable transmission, so I was probably the only one needed one in my area in the past decade . lol . I drive this car like a maniac. The 3rd syncro was bad, but for 99% of the population on a daily drive it was fine. since it was grinding only on power shifts. No one do power shifts on normal driving lol... good old days when people like driving cars... now good luck finding a dsg under 3k$ |

I have similar notchy transmission, I did do a fluid change but with OE since I didn't want to cause issues.
I just live with it. It doesn't really bother me. As long as there is no grinding I think it's fine. |
