Question for those of you with a VRSF aluminum outlet
For those of you that have installed VRSF aluminum outlets, did you have an issue with the silicone coupler being too short? The one I received is 4 inches long.
With each side of the outlet lined up with the turbos, the silicone coupler in the middle is at least a 1/2" too short and that's if I put a t-bolt clamp as close to the bead on the end of outlet as possible. In the picture below, you can see how the coupler barely covers the bead on the unclamped side. Don't mind it being unlevel, I had the back side hanging when I took the picture. I have the VRSF SS outlet. My coupler fit no problem with room to spare. I didn't use a t-bolt: I used SS worm clamps on both ends. I also wrapped the coupler in gold DEI heat tape.
I just checked. My coupler is only 4 1/4" long at best When installing, it was sort of a PITA getting both ends lined up. |

I could probably get away with using worm clamps as they're about a 1/2" more narrow collectively than the t-bolt clamps but I'm not a huge fan of using those on the pressurized side. Did your outlets come with the worm clamps?

Nope. Worm clamps work best IMO. I use them through out the entire intake & outlet system w/ any issues. I have 1.75" silicone inlets, and I use worm clamps to secure the inlets to the AFE airbox & the turbos themselves. Even the rear turbo, which can be problematic for some because the pressure pops them off the rear turbo. Not mine

How are your turbos clocked? That could effect things? Either that or have VRSF send you a 5" piece of coupler...
I'd put some gold DEI tape on their if I were you, that coupler is really close to the exhaust manifold. That manifold will absolutely get to 500 degrees or higher on a hot summer day. |

They're RB stock frame turbos so they're clocked how Rob sends them out. The alignment and clearance seems normal, the coupler just seems a bit short. I reached out to VRSF but haven't heard anything back yet. I'll either source a longer coupler or get some worm clamps. I also plan to use some DEI tape or move the shielding over from the stock outlet to protect the coupler. Thanks for the input! |
