Might just sell it
Hey guys so the other day the car died. Hooked it up to battery charger for about 4 hrs come back to check on it before I go to work. Battery compartment is filled with battery acid I guess. Now I am frustrated and this could be my fault because the battery charger probably over charged it HOWEVER it is a smart battery charger and it says it stopped once it was fully charged. While I'm not sure if that is the issue I'm at the point where I'd like to sell it now. Not sure really, the only other stuff was the car had to be painted, + headlights. Give me some ideas on what to do guys. I'm going to work right now but hopefully when I'm calmer I'll figure out a solution.

Battery acid .....or water? Can the car been sitting outside for a while? Has it rained? I've heard of several people having bad seals around the trunk letting water in.....
If it's battery acid....get it out of there ASAP!!! And wash everything out with clean water....lots of it!! |

Don't get discouraged. Shit happens. Don't make the same mistake again. Nutralize it with some caustic soda, clean it out and get back to it. I thought there was a vent line to the outside of the car for that?

Yes I was discouraged but I'm going to keep going I have a plan to deal with the acid. I'm just worried that the lines are corroded if so I'll just have to replace them. It does have a vacuum line but that's for gas the battery gives off. Not for acidic liquid stuff lol.

Update I got mostly all of it out. I said it because now that It's on the ground and not in my battery compartment it smells an awfully lot like rain water. I hope this is the right photo showing the decrease in water

Could be letting water in from the tail light, vent behind the bumper, the gas tank filler, shock mount. I would remove that battery and have some test with a garden hose.

That looks like dirty rain water. Vacuum that stuff out and do what feuer said.
On the side note, why not forget about the wrap and keep the car red. Paint the front bumper/fender and be done with it. That red can look really nice once done. Maybe consider wrapping the window trim in gloss black and get some gloss black kidney grilles. Get yourself a black interior, do a swap and burn the beige one. Please. I've gotten all of it out there is corrosion on each of the terminals I still have to clean. Going to take the rear wheel off and remove the fender liner so I can take those out and clean them. At least the worst is over with.

Ok guys ! Good news I got all the gunk off the terminals. Now I think it really was water that was in the battery compartment ? If it was battery acid shouldn't it have hurt me LOL , because it got on my skin but there wasn't any sort of reaction or anything. I think it really was water but whatever. Now just to go to the stealer-ship to get another battery. Hopefully the ibs sensor wasn't blown due in the process of all
As for the ugly interior a guy on bimmer post has full grey interior + seats he wants 600 for it it's all in decent quality. So I'm going to get them in late July/ early August it's going to be a bit of a drive guys to in Florida. I mean yes that's quite the drive but I haven't don't anything this summer at all nor do I want to have fun in Florida with the amount of covid cases. All I'm saying is it would be nice to get away from those beige seats

Yeah I'd just dye your stock seats rather then spend $600 on non-sport seats.

I would strongly suggest to pass on the grey interior and focus on getting all black.
Bottom section of your dash is still beige. With full black seats and door cards you can still get away with half beige dash. Grey is hard to maintain and looks like dogs puke when dirty, not to mention the contrast with the half beige dash. Do it right man do it once. Please. |
