Rum Thread
I saw there was a whiskey thread so figured I would start a rum thread. Anyone have favorite bottles or best bottle they ever had?

This section of the bar...
Diplomatica Reserva is a good one, Plantation XO is a favorite of many here. I have a Plantation Panama this is good, Angostura 1824 is solid. The Key West Bad Bitch is really good...just had a friend bring me back another bottle. Brazilian Cahaca Sebatiana is also tasty. |

Serie Experimental No.1 - Unique, very tasty. Reminiscent of a very good Madeira. Not the easiest to get if you're in the US. |

Aww man..this is my thread! I love me some rum! I have been trying to collect rums for some random places around the world. Here is what I currently have (from memory):
Angostura 1824 (Trinidad) Angostura 1919 (Trinidad) Bacardi Maestro Gran Reserva (Puerto Rico) Barcelo Imperial (Dominican Republic) Barcelo Imperial Onyx (Dominican Republic) Centenario 20yr (Costa Rica) Diplimatico Reserva Exclusiva (Venezuela) Diplimatico Single Vintage 2004 (Venezuela) Don Q Grand Reserve (Puerto Rico) El DOrado 21yr (Guyana) Havana Club 7 Anos (Authentic from Cuba) John Watlings (The Bahamas) Kohana Rum Kila Cask Strength (Hawaii) Kohana Rum Koho Artist Series (Hawaii) Pyrat XO (Guyana) Pyrat Cask 1623 (Guyana) Santa Teresa 1796 (Venezuela) Vizcaya (Dominican Rpublic) Zacapa XO (Guatemala) Zaya (Guatemala Batch) Zaya (Trinidad Batch) I think that is all my rum! I have to look again because I feel like I missed something. But like I said, this is off the top of my head! LOL Last edited by evil-G-nius; 03-31-2021 at 11:27 PM.. |

When I found out it was discontinued I stopped drinking it. LOL i have it maybe twice a year. Birthday & maybe Christmas or New Years. Pyrat is notorious for making some good shit and then stopping. Their Blanco was hands down the best white rum I have ever had and had I known they would never sell it again I'd have done the same thing with that one! LOL

They probably will eventually kill it. Big companies like Patron are the death of good small producers like Pyrat. Not may people know them so why market em? I don't agree but IDK...I have no faith in a mediocre tequila company taking over a decent rum company and making the right moves to keep it going

My stash from Cuba. I always bring a few bottles when I vacation in Cayo Coco.
The 15 Y/O is really hard to find and I paid $220 for it the last time. The 7 Y/O is nice for sipping and the 3 Y/O for mix. Attachment 2567745 Attachment 2567746 Last edited by Lady Jane; 01-06-2022 at 05:14 PM.. |

We have a great local small batch rum if any of you Floridians can get your hands on it.

I'll second the comments on Kirk and Sweeney, as well as the Diplomatico. Two excellent rums. Also a huge fan of the Ron Centenario 25 year. I sip that one slowly. My favorite for mixing is Kaniche XO.
I made some blood orange margaritas for the wife and me last weekend. I was amazed at how great they tasted. Kept commenting on it to my wife. I sat down to eat dinner and looked over at the liqour table and realized I had use my Kirk and Sweeney, which was a similar shape to the bottle of tequila. I was upset that I wasted it in in a mixed drink, but was consoled as I finished the rest of a great drink. LOL |

I bought a bottle of the Kirk and Sweeny 23 pictured above recently and like it a lot but one thing seems strange about it. While it says "23" it never says what this number means, like "23 years old". Can't find it on their website either. The picture above, the 12 says "12 year", if it is really 23 year old rum why wouldn't they say it?
Also seems like they can add flavoring to rum? One thing I like about bourbon is the rules on what can go in it and what has to go into making it seems a lot more strict. Went to Key West recently and went on the Papa's Pilar tour, bought a couple of bottle of it and also think it is good. Also like the Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend (also been to the distillery in Barbados), maybe because I am a big bourbon fan.
