Best Cheap N54 Valve Cover 2021
Anyone know a reliable aftermarket solution? Willing to pay more for quality but know that there are many available right now.
Anyone have a tried and tested one they could recommend ? |

Go OEM. There's lots of posts where people have tried off-brand alternatives and they didn't hold up.

If you’re willing to pay more for quality, just get OEM. You’ll probably only need to do it once in the lifetime of the car. That job isn’t super difficult but it’s enough of a pain that I wouldn’t want to do it twice.

The genuine BMW VCG at Pelican Parts is $572, but the same part is $400 at FCPEuro (AND lifetime warranty) - go figure. It pays to shop around.
Pelican also has a number of others from $192 to $360. I generally don't pay for genuine BMW parts since the prices are jacked up just to have the BMW logo etched somewhere on the part. Without getting into a lengthy conversation about the difference between genuine, OE and OEM parts, I'll say that I'm more willing to go non-genuine BMW for "dumb" parts like a VCG which has no moving parts, but for a mechanical item like a pump I'd probably more discerning. In OP's case, I would suggest $400 (plus the lifetime warranty) is not a bad price to pay for the real deal, but if you are really looking to save money you'd probably be just fine with anything from Rein, Febi or URO. $250-$350 range would be a fair price for a quality, non-genuine VCG.

So, it's a $100.00 question. Do you take the risk of getting a non-OEM part and having it crack in 6 months for example? If it breaks in less than 3 years, now you are spending another $400.00 on an OEM VC. Now you have a $700.00 VC… ouch 🤕 I'd say given the NUMEROUS posts on this & other forums of members who bought a non-OEM part from say E-bay, Rock Auto etc., & burned, that it's not worth it. |

I searched and researched all I could a few months ago when I decided to replace my VC. I ended up going with an OEM one from FCP Euro. I just didn't want to roll the dice on an aftermarket one that could fail again soon.
For every guy saying "this aftermarket one is great"...there was someone else saying the opposite. |

I think he was just trying to be funny. I don't see any asinine intent.

Well now I feel a little stupid if so, but who knows unless he confirms in which I'd gladly apologize.
I think that'd be a huge gamble as these VC's crack with heat cycles & you never know how old it truly is, especially with the age of these cars too. |

True, although when my vcg was changed at 106,000 miles the vc was all good.
Still as you say only bdsmn54is knows what he meant.

What most people fail to realize, not saying you have, is the fact that the PCV system is built into these VC's & even going thru 1 VCG (60-80k km's ish) can cause the PCV ports to become clogged. Replacement of VC or externalizing PCV Low & High side, is the only way to go.
