CAS Alignment
Alright so where do I begin… I bought a BMW.. lol I have a 2007 BMW 328i and started running into issues where the car would not start, I'll get a crank intermediately but then the starter locks up. So I started doing some research on diagnosing the car and found out about INPA and ISTA. I manage to download ISTA+ and diaged the car and I am getting issues with the DME and CAS when I try to do a CAS alignment I get an error saying
"It was not possible to determine any basic features from the vehicle. The central encoding key (ZCS) or the vehicle order (FA) is invalid or not entered. In this case, the central encoding key or vehicle order must be subsequently entered via the encoding/programming function. There may also be a fault in communication with the control units. In this case, troubleshooting must be carried out on the vehicle." I've hit a bit of a wall, I'm trying to figure out what to do now and would like some help if possible. Thank you |

CAS will activate the starter and keep it activated regardless of the alignment state (as long as the correct key fob is used). If the modules are not aligned, the DME will not let the engine fire but the starter will continue to turn. The starter will never "lock up". Why don't you start by posting whatever fault codes you observe? Last edited by dpaul; 07-13-2022 at 05:59 AM.. |

9CCE means the battery has been deeply discharged at some point. That will permanently reduce the capacity of the battery to some extent 5DE0 means you have or had at one point a fault speed sensor on a front wheel E18F is some sort of MOST bus error - irrelevant to the engine. 27EC is a BSD bus error. If that is current it will set the check engine light. However, it will not prevent the car from starting A0B4 means that CAS has tried to activate terminal KL50 but the current being drawn is out of range. In other words, CAS is applying 12v to the lead to the solenoid - the small diameter white single wire that you see going to the starter. However, the current/voltage being drawn is below or above spec. The simplest explanation for your issue is a dying starter/solenoid. Not the only one but the most likely one. Easy enough to test - you'll just have to expose the starter (remove airbox, intake manifold) to get a jumper cable in there. |

I'm still confused by your descriptions. What do you mean "first time around"? Are you now saying the starter turns the engine over normally but the engine does not fire? In the future, take screen shots from ISTA and INPA and post them |

Perhaps post a youtube video of you trying to start your car. |
