Brakes squeal after installing Akebono pads
Hey all,
I recently switched from my OE textar pads to a set of the akebono euro spec pads to cut down on brake dust. I am using zimmerman rotors and bedded the pads in after install. All was good for a while but now that they have about 1500 miles on them they squeal really bad under light low speed braking. It sounds like it comes from any of the four corners. None of the brakes feel overly hot so I don't think any of the calipers are sticking. Are these pads just loud? Do I need to re-bed them in? |

Sometimes there's some brake dust that sits between the backs of the pads and the caliper that cause the brake squealing noise. Also sometimes you may even hear a distinct thud sound when braking if you have reversed and braked, like in a parking area or reversing out of a driveway. The anti-squeal paste usually sorts these issues out.

No need to re-bed the brakes, but hopefully that will quieten them up. Literally just apply a thin layer to the surfaces that make contact on the backs of the pads, that should take care of it.

Not sure of your brake compound but on my other car (ND Miata) I have aggressive street pads for AutoX. They are just loud. Typically the more heat resistant a brake compound is, the noisier they will be.

I used akebono EUR918A and EUR1170 ultra premium ceramic pads. They're supposed to be a low dusting alternative to the OEM pads.
