Which fluid for power steering?

A bit of an emergency, need it fast.

Mine is red whatever it is. Says ATF on the cap.

It's for 2006 E90 320D

Original ATF type fill for power steering would have been Dexron III (3), should also be on the cap or in the manual. That particular spec is no longer licensed however. There should be 'generic' power steering fluid that matches the spec, or something like Mobil 1 full syn ATF would be generally available. I run the Mobil 1 in a power steering system that specs Dex III and it's been good.

Other options would be something like Redline D4 or Motul Multi ATF.

I bought some Halfords own brand Dexron 3 power steering fluid locally. It said suitable for some BMWs so hopefully will be ok.

Don’t know what’s in the UK, but ISTA specs DII for your car, if you are still using ATF. The BMW part number is 81229400272. You should be fine, as both are compatible, though. It’s just not the spec.
