Very nice Vas! I have to say, I don't like the metal bits in the intake box. I think the hose clamp, with maybe an o-ring would be enough to secure and seal the flange to the air box.

That's possible. What you could also try is to JBWeld the flange inside the airbox. That way it is strong and secure in there.

Thanks for the detailed write-up. Just ordered all the needed parts with two exceptions. Using JBWeld and instead of rerouting the diverter coupler I decided to follow the Helix intake system and cap the intake side of the DV and put a small breather filter on the DV itself. I'm thinking this will produce a bit of a blow-off sound, similar to the AWE BOVs. |

Hey Vas, how come you put two rivets from the outside and two from the inside? Wouldn't all 4 from the inside give it a smooth finish on the inside of the box?

The rivet gun could not fit inside the airbox with sufficient clearance for me to actually install the rivets. That's why I installed two of them from the outside.

Make sure you use high-temperature epoxy rated for 200F or more. The last thing you want is the epoxy melting and getting into the intake tubes and possibly the turbines.

very nice DIY! if i have not the GurppeM then definately will go this way. have u tried GurppeM intake? it is cold air and larger flow than OEM airbox. Although it is single cone filter but the duck to lead the air flow is powerful.

Yeah it was pretty popular back then.. But then with the DCI's becoming so much less expensive I think people began to quit salvaging their stock air boxes and getting whatever $$$ they could for them.. just my .02 anyways..

It's called the Mr.5-style intake. He has a very good writeup on it. I ran this for a while before my upgraded diverter valves interfered with the added piping, so I had to ditch it and go DCI. I liked it, especially since I don't really care for the turbo spooling sound, and this masks that a bit.
