I know I have a problem
BMW brake fluid..........
FCP and Bimmerworld both have BMW brake fluid listed as low viscosity for a great price butttttt the bottle says high performance and not low viscosity. Is it really low viscosity or should I spend the extra $$ on ATE or Motul? This is just for a daily driver. |

Just get DOT 4 fluid. Stop stressing.

It's OK to "buy a BMW". Just DON'T "buy the BS" you may often see on Forums & "Web Lore".
With MOST Fluids, how often they are changed is more important than "Genuine BMW", as long as the fluid (oil, brake, AT, coolant, P/S) is CORRECT Type and a reasonable spec. Now if you are driving a "Race Car" on the Track, that's another matter. "ONE Size Fits All" does NOT apply. George |

I think either one will work. I use Valvoline, flushed every 2 years, and it is normal viscosity.
But if you are OCD then Pentosin DOT 4 LV, $14.80/L: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...42508&pt=11389 |

Just go to the parts store and get the Valvoline DOT 3/4.
It's fine. Don't even need to pay for shipping or wait.

Yes your suspicion is correct, the fluid you see on FCP is the non LV one from BMW. I don't see where they mention LV. It seems they don't carry the LV BMW for some reason, can't find it anywhere. The part number is 83132184843, actually I think there's a lot of part numbers for it.
Had this dilemma of fluid to use a while ago to. Realised car specs for LV instead of normal DOT 4. I believe it has to do with better function with ABS/DSC system. I used to shop by brake fluid temp but since mine is also just a daily although I do drive and push it, I switched to LV because why not and it's not that expensive. I either buy it from dealer if I need it ASAP or actaully prefer to get Pentosin DOT 4 LV when I order parts online. |

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
