Intro - New to me 2011 BMW 335D

Hi everyone,
Well last week I did a bad thing. I bought my first BMW ever. I picked this 2011 BMW 335D from the dealer with 138K miles on it. I am the second owner and the previous owner had detailed service records. It looks and drives like it just got off the showroom floor. Just wanted to drop by and say hi.

Warm welcome from someone who just recently purchased their first BMW as well. Not new to diesel world though (TDI, Cummins).

I jumped in feet first with this one, already replaced the dreaded oil line #1 and did the valve cover gasket (along with a slew of other things while I was in there)

If you're used to being a part of a very active forum, this one isn't it unfortunately, not much action here, but there's good info if you look around

Welcome! The above member is correct, not to much action here but the Facebook group page has tons of action.

Top things to check out on the car:
- vacuum lines
- exhaust backpressure hose
- turbo oil lines
- red turbo outlet hose
- swirl flaps

I really wish this group was active somewhere other than Facebook since I don't do social media. Would be a good resource for my manual swap when it comes time.

Also, what happens with the exhaust backpressure hose?
Just recently did all my oil lines and VCG and had that hose off, but mine at least looked fine, so I left it alone

Hose comes loose, melts engine harness.

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong hose then?? is it the one that connects to the exhaust manifold then connects up to the bracket with all the vacuum regulators?

Edit, I found a thread. Yeah mine doesn't look bad at all, I mean I had it out when I did the oil lines and nothing looked like it was taking on damage or deterioriating

Yup, this happened to me. Melted engine wire harness, it was nearly $1500 for repair. Fun times.

Ok so I do understand how this happens, but it's easily inspectable if you just open the hood. As well, you'll notice a smell if exhaust gasses are entering the compartment. So how does this happen, is it often or just people ignoring trivial things?

The hose eventually melts without reason, and can cause damage almost instantly.
I’d say anytime you hear a hissing noise or have no low RPM boost to check that hose immediately. I replaced mine with a high temp fuel hose from O’Reillys and it’s holding up fine.
