Post Xenon Ballast Part number interchangeability.

Hey guys, been struggling to get my head around this. I am shopping for a ballast for my 2011 E90 w/Xenons non-adaptive, logically I went with the original part number (63117237647), upon checking on my local BMW dealer parts portal, it says the part is discontinued, and it is replaced by a new part (63117318327).

checking on real OEM, it says that the new part is "nonexchangeable retrospectively"
however, clicking into the new part number it says:
63117318327
Control unit xenon light
From:03/15/2012To:-Weight:152.280 kgPrice:
Supersedes:
63117237647(11/20/2009 — ), Exchangeable retrospectively.

So is this new part compatible or not? I'm very confused if it is indeed a direct swap, and if anyone has experience with this situation. THank you.
