My JB3 Experience
Went up to Terry's last weekend and we put a JB3 Beta in the car. Some issues were had with the PNP harness, but needless to say this is going to be a truly simple system when the production version rolls out and Terry's customer service is top notch as always.
Coming from the JB2, the allure of the JB3 was not necessarily the power, but the increased control the unit offers allowing for smoother delivery of that power. With catless downpipes, the JB2 is very unpleasant in 1st and 2nd gear. Boost comes on almost instantly making for a really jerky experience that makes the car uncomfortable to drive at low speeds and in traffic. Things get even worse the R switch is engaged. It was so bad I was at times embarrassed when passengers would make comments about it. The power was strong, but the smooth nature of my BMW engine had all but disappeared! Enter the JB3 - problem solved! Boost is now delivered in a much more linear fashion and the car feels as smooth as it did when stock, with much more grunt (obviously). The JB3 recognizes situations where downpipes are present and tunes the car accordingly. The car really rips up top, where a stock engine or even a JB2 begins to choke up. I could not be happier with the steps Terry has made with the new JB3. It is clearly a much more sophisticated product and the smooth power delivery is a complete joy to experience. It may sound silly, but the car even 'sounds' smoother and yes I'm being serious. |

congrats on the install of the JB3...Everything I have heard about the tune has been positive...The JB2 compared to the JB3 is so much different I see and seems to be much improved and smoother!

Great write-up.
And I still remember the days when people poked fun at Terry for his Radio-Shack experiment. Now who has the last laugh? Though it was not his intent to participate in this battle of the tunes (people here and another tuner provoked it), he has clearly demonstrated professionality, quality, customer service, coupled with a great product. Way to go BMS. And thanks for your writeup billpreston. Can't wait to see your reincarnated car.

As to his intent to participate in battle of the tunes, TB does not have clean hands.

Have you had a chance to ride in a car with an aggresive tune?

Ive been driving my friends 335iwhile my car gets the suspention instaled and his car with the JB3 is unreal. It feel completely like a stocker but with alot more power when you put your foot in it. It trips me out, i jump on it, i feel like im not going to fast, i look down, im going 100. Ive put about 2K miles on the JB3 already and not a single hiccup. Ive gone from 100 degree weather to 60 by the beach and no problems. missed a shift, pegged the speedo... no problem. Terry did a great job on it. Not to mention when he installed it on this car, he was completely friendly and knowledgeable. Can wait to be able to have it on my car.

This is a great review and those of you who have been reading the other reviews about JB3 would see that this is a unbiased review of a tune which many of us welcome it, and enjoy reading the thread...Again this review makes me want to try out the JB3....It sounds like a great tune and the price alone is without a doubt unbeatable...Lets see what the future entails for me!!!

can you tell me more about the board lore of TB and Shiv and why any claim TB has may not sound in equity (due to unclean hands).
