Hey guys I've been a member several months and can usually use the search feature and read to figure out issues but I need some direct help on this one.

Last week I got a warning light saying I had an drl/angel eye out. Went to change it and discovered most of the wiring inside the drivers side headlight is bare or flaking off. I tried installing the h8 bulb anyhow and now neither the drl/angel eye or the ds1 xenon work. The drl/angel eye doesn't come on at all and the ds1 xenon flickers. I messed with (jiggled) the wiring a little and in certain places the ds1 xenon stays on so hopefully I just need to repair my wiring.

The 07 E92 (coupe) was bought in Houston and has been in Houston ever since. The wiring in the driver side headlight has lost most of its protective coating and several wires are touching at the harness. The passenger side wiring is brittle but still mostly intact and has no issues yet. I've read that the 07 can do this if the car is in a hot/humid area of the country.

Can you guys give me some advice on the easiest way to fix this? Ive added some pictures to show what I'm dealing with. Hopefully I don't have to remove the bumper, headlight and use a heat gun to open it up and heat shrink each wire separately....

Great link! Thanks, now I know where to get the heat shrink.

I was kinda looking to see if I can do this with everything on the car... Or if I have to remove the bumper and headlight then remove the lens to get to these wires for repair?

Or if anyone has done this with success? I found a thread about a 5 series that had to do this but nothing for an E92. Maybe I missed a thread or DIY...

Yup this happens. I found this happening on a set of '09 xenons I just opened up- but not nearly as bad as yours! Yikes!

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you think I could tackle this without opening the headlight up? I think the issue is in the harness where all the wires meet. I suppose I could get a few paint brushes with this stuff and reach in there carefully.....

I just removed the service cover on top of the headlight and went to work. Flake off the really dry insulation before applying though. I didn't remove every bit of insulation, only that which was exposed and in bad shape.

The product includes a brush-fitted cap.

Mine has a little of that problem - cured by some electrical tape. That is a whole other ball game. I would probably try out that liquid tape stuff and go from there.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother trying to repair that harness.

You can get blank, OEM, xenon housings for under $150 used on eBay.

Ok I spent several hours last night seperating and painting on the liquid electrical tape. The liquid electrical tape actually works pretty well. Its not pretty but it got the job done for I'd say 90% of the wire that was showing bare copper. Put on several coats, allowed plenty of drying time and they still do the same thing! So dissapointed once I fired the car up....The drl does nothing and the xenon still just flickers on the drivers side. Passenger side works great.

All the other lights on the drivers side work except the angel eye and the xenon. Even the adaptive parts adjusts up and down like it should.

Whats the next step to figure out whats going on with the drivers side?

OK I checked the headlight fuses. If my memory serves me right it was number 42 and number 68. They are good. The only other thing I could think it might be with the wiring is where the small zip tie groups the wiring harness in the bottom right of the picture. I tried to cut that zip tie to space the wires out more evenly but a few wires quickly started losing their coating and I decided not to mess with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the components (ballasts, ignitor, etc) are now damaged from constant shorting.

What happens with the parts when you swap them to the working side? If the behave the same, you know your parts are bad.

Like I said earlier, a used xenon adaptive housing can be found on eBay for under $150. Recently saw one for $90 + $30 shipping.

Same thing happened to me, after i fixed the wires. It still didn't work. turned out the FRM module was locked after the wires kept short circuit for so long.
But luckily i found someone online and helped me reset the FRM through coding. If a shop has the tool that can diagnose the car, there is a module that would allow you to force the light on... mine came on with that command, but won't work unless it was forced to.
If you have knowledge with INPA software, you can do it yourself too.

wow that is awful! I would even check with the dealership to see if they would be willing to replace this for free for you since this is a major defect in the headlight.

I also live in HTX and my E92 has the same issue. I was just trying to replace the Angel eyes bulbs when I ran into this. It is pretty scary.

My e92 as well. Went the cheap route and used liquid tape. Working well so far. Both sides were having some issues, but the driver's side seemed to be the worse. Surprised it didn't short out.

I have same issue even worse than yours. Can’t locate proper pin pusher to remove pins.

I went the liquid tape route yesterday just to get things working again. Definitely not the best solution, but it is working and I have lights.

Mine weren't nearly as bad as some of these photos, but I had a few bare wires. I used the liquid electrical tape for now.

But I have to open the lights up again soon to adjust the projector rotation and do more trimming for the AFS to work, and when I do, I'm replacing the wiring completely:
