u didnt need to change dme ur issue was with cas. u just need a another cas.you buy one used, macth the isn of cas to dme ,then u match the ecu and u are ready to go.( with this method u need the key of the used cas though). if u dont have key u have to match the key data as well , or make new key for the used cas. but definetily u dont need another dme.

They’re both from the same car. They were also coded to my car.

The obd2 port is getting power, but not getting scanned.

As i mentioned before, the previous owner had already replaced the DME, so it wasn’t the original DME that came from the factory. I didn’t get the old factory DME either. Only the replacement one.

With that DME, I wasn’t even getting ignition.

To start fresh, I got a DME, CAS and keys from a donor car.

Now I get ignition. But no crank. Obd2 port gets power, but won’t scan.

A very happy new year to you too brother!

Unfortunately I badly need this car to run, so throwing money at it is my only option

To sync, the car has to get scanned. It doesn’t scan. ISTA doesn’t detect anything. That’s the main issue now.

Is there a way to sync these two without installing them to the car?

I have INPA AND ISTA. No readings from the obd2. It gets power, but won’t scan.

See reply to your Bimmerfest post on same subject. ISTA ScreenPrints of OBD II Socket SSP wiring are attached to that post:

I have no idea what services are available in Japan, but you can have an send the CAS and DME off to numerous places in the US to get them programmed to your VIN.

I can only assume the same services are available there.

Have you ever had your ISTA working?
Are you certain it is setup correctly?

That is unknown. Previous owner said it was getting harder and harder to start, until it didn't start.

I know now that he replaced the DME, CAS, Key and JBE.

After I purchased the car, I replaced the DME, CAS and key.

Still no start.

Regarding the OBD2 Issue, I had a spare JBE from a 2011 320d. Plugged it in. Didn't work. Still cannot scan the car.

Thank you. I replied to your comment.

The OBD2 port gets power. The two ground pins work. The pin that leads to the JBE works. I get power at the JBE connector (blue connector).

I replaced the JBE with a 320d E90 part (part number is different but I just tried it).

Still cannot scan the car.
