The world's largest marine engine (which may make it the world's largest engine period) is an inline 14-cylinder turbodiesel. It idles at 15 rpm and maxes out at 120 rpm. Each cylinder has a bore of 96 cm (38 inches) and a stroke of 2.5 meters (98 inches), giving a displacement of 1,820 liters each. It runs on heavy oil and uses 1,600 gallons per hour.

I think one of the coolest facts on this that isn't mentioned is its torque...

5,608,310 lb-ft @ 102 RPM

That was my first thought. Must be enormous torque.

The view from the "Office" this morning. If the world were flat (it isn't), but if it were then you would be looking at probably Morocco or possibly Western Sahara. Either way it's a bloody long way to dry land in that direction.

I recognized the train, it passed through the town next to us last week. The bridge in the background looks like the bridge crossing the Humber River in Toronto, but the rest of the background clearly wasn't Toronto.

Merry Christmas.

We're having a winter too, snow almost every day. We had a thaw about a week ago, and lost a lot of snow. Then added over a foot so for the past 3 days and it looks like another foot by the end of the week. -23C this morning. Yay for me.
