iRacing

After a long abscence I re-installed iRacing. I had deleted it and a few large
sim files as my M.2 C: drive ran out of space.

In anticipation of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on 11/19/2024, I decided
to make some upgrades to my computer. I added a 2TB M.2 SSD, an LG 39”
OLED curved monitor, 1000 watt power supply and a XFX 7900 XTX video
card.

I dusted off my Thrustmaster TMX steering wheel and got back on the iRacing
race tracks. I’m a rookie, of course, but it sure is fun. So far, my favorite
cars are Formula Vee and the Mazda MX-5. Old habits from driving Quarter
Midgets when I was a kid are coming back. Too much fun!

As an aside, I’m seeing ~150 to 300+ FPS.

I'm in the same boat, I was really into sim racing in 2021 and then my daughter was born, and then another daughter was born in 2023. I just put a new rig together and I'm finally able to get back into it with a little bit of spare time that I have. Starting from rookie all over again...

Nice setup, huge upgrade.

iRacing runs great on that hardware, so 150–300+ FPS sounds about right, especially with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

Good call starting with the Formula Vee and Mazda MX-5 Cup, both are perfect for learning racecraft. If you haven’t already, try focusing on consistency over pace early on; it makes a big difference getting out of rookies.

Also curious how that LG 39-inch OLED curved monitor feels for sim racing, big immersion boost?
