Hybrid Turbos on Auto 6HP19 Box

Hey, recently came into possession of an N54 and been loving every minute of it. Noticed after putting DPs on I’ve noticed that I’m burning oil which ive sussed to be coming from the turbos along with a lot of wastegate rattle. Thought this would be prime time to change up to a set of hybrids since I’ve got a mate who works at TurboSystems. After doing a lot of research on what I need to do and yet I hit a wall when talking to my tuner after he mentioned the fact that the auto box can’t take the power hybrids give and is a pointless venture (550hp is the figure I was aiming for). Just wanting to see if anyone has had any experience with the auto box and if it is as bad as he makes out or if it’s not worth it at all and just to get a pair of refurbished turbos instead? Thanks

There are tons of people running hybrid turbos on auto transmissions. I've run full e85 on stock turbos, which makes similar power to a mild set of hybrids on 93 octane for many years on stock trans with zero issues. They can handle a ton more than they're rated for.

The key is you need to have a trans tune installed to increase the clutch clamping force. xHP is the app used to tune the trans and you can either get their ots maps or a custom map through Sutphin Tuning.

You can absolutely run 550hp through one if it's healthy.

I'm not sure if the tuner is unaware or just conservative, but reach out to:
- CarAbuser (on s p o o l s t r e e t forum, he's also UK based)
- Wedge Performance
- Twisted Tuning
- Motiv

Any of them can get you taken care of.

See this is what I though since I couldn’t find it online being a ‘known issue’ but I weren’t going to sit and argue with a guy that knows more about the cars than me

I’ve got both xHP stage 2 and MHD 2+ on at the moment and enjoying the burbles since I know I’m chucking out the turbos anyway, and both are great. I may go back and give the green light then to my mate and get them turbos on the way. Was speaking to another tuner anyway who goes through Ken at Wedge but I may just contact them directly. Assuming they offer the service remotely since I’m based in the UK?

Yeah, no need to use a middle man--Ken can get you dialed from afar. He's on the west coast and I'm in TN and I've had a few tunes done through him. He was quick to respond and has been in the N54 game a very very long time. You'll be happy!
