Transmission Rebuild?
Hi All,
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but I've kind of hit a wall in my research. I've recently noticed my transmission is slipping a little when holding constant speeds in 6th gear, little slips while I'm cruising along especially when the transmission isn't warm enough. I drive a '08 E90 335i RWD, original motor, original transmission, and about 193,000 miles. I think the friction disks may be starting to wear down a little too much. I want to get some opinions on whether I should rebuild the transmission, or maybe someone else has had a similar issue and has some maintenance/repair they did to fix this issue. I also haven't really been able to find any good resources for rebuilding the transmission, I want to at least look into it to see if it's something worth doing. The transmission is a ZF 6hp16. Thank you all. |

I had somewhat similar issues but on my BMW X5 2005 4.4 with automatic transmission ZF 6hp26 at around 170K miles. I rebuilt it, completely refreshed the oil and it now shifts like new. I did all the work in my parking garage on my back
. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...n-success.html Go through the thread. Valuable info. I think it was an overkill to replace the mechatronic separator plate and damper pistons given no codes but only poor shifting and slips. Last edited by musa; 05-22-2026 at 10:37 PM.. |
