MPG
I know it's been done to death, but is anyone aware of any issues (other than tyre pressure/driving style/journey type) which might lead to poor MPG?? I'm getting 35mpg average from my 320d, which should do at least 10mpg more (mixed driving, trying to get fair economy, not fully loaded up). I'm on the verge of asking the dealer to investigate, although I've only owned the car for 3 tank fulls!
Thanks in advance... |

I had an 05 E90 for 2 years, and that averaged 37.6. This was always increased when I went on a motorway run, but in general day to day use (round town/dual carriageways/country roads) that was all mine managed...
My new E92 (auto) is giving 41.5 over same roads so maybe this ED stuff does work....!!

Not as optimistic as BMW's own figures for the ED 320i 170. Straight out of Enid Blyton.

I use to get 41 out of my e46 320d manual, I'm getting that out of my new 325d auto now
I did use to get more than that though on long motorway journeys doing a little over the limit |

iirc, a mate used to get over 40 (44?) from his E46 330d manual... I was expecting a lot more from a DERV, it makes no sense over a petrol with the relative fuel costs with 35/36mpg not good

I only ever reset my computer once in 3 years when i did though i managed to get it up to 48 but you had to drive it like a funeral car
I understand your concern only getting 35/36 that does seem low especially on the newer engine! |

We had one as a company car for the last 3 yrs - this did the same mpg as yours around town - On it's annual run to the south of France returned well over 50mpg average.
Prob with town runs is that you are always 'driving on the turbo' and that uses a lot more fuel |

I got that last year when I drove to Paris (bad idea) Diesels aren't very good for just driving around towns.
If your doing low mileage and around towns you better off with a petrol. |

It's a Dec '05 (55) model - the 163bhp engine? I was expecting over 40 at worst, although it's not been town driving it's not been all m/way either.

Think that was the same engine that was in my 05 E46 320d, i would expect you to get more like what I was getting, most of my driving was mways, A and B roads and occasional around town.

I've done 9,000 miles in a little over 2 months. Economy whilst 'running' in was below expectations of around 37 to 39 mpg. Now I'm averaging 42 - 44 mpg with quite a heavy right foot. Average speed is around 50 - 60 mph with most of the miles on the motorway.
I was following a colleague in a van yesterday doing 60mph so I reset the computer. Averaged 66mpg from Birmingham to Nottingham. It also takes bigger miles to get a true reflection of mpg, not just one tank as small deviations of throttle, driving style, town congestion makes a huge difference to the result. Any one noticed how the average speed of the average motorist on the motorway has dropped in recent months? Not for me yet I'm on a company fuel card |

Those company fuel cards are brilliant aren't they
You do need to take the MPG over greater distances, like the previous post said, any changes in driving style will make a big difference on your MPG |

New fleet manager in our business. Expect to see fuel/cost saving measures soon. EG. no filling up in service stations, only cheap ASDA. No premium fuels, no driving over 70mph (in a 30!!!!) No vehicles with emissions over 190 carbon thingies. etc.

I'm getting a constant 34mpg in my e92 335d (mixture of driving styles and conditions), so I'd expect you to be getting quite a bit more than that

You do know it's a six speed 'box
"even I" get 42-43. Not much town driving, mostly Motorway and A Roads, though. Usually at warp factor 9.
