JB3 Race - Drop In vs BMS Dual Intake

I did multiple 20-90mph vbox runs this Sunday to compare the BMS dual intake to the Helene drop in. What I wasn't expecting was just how close the JB3 1.1 map was to the beta JB3 race map on 99 octane. All runs were surprisingly repeatable with small variances explained by the timing of my shifts as seen on the graph overlays. I chose to start off in 2nd (6mt) to see if there were any signifcant differences anywhere in the powerband - which there wasn't. Here is a summary which used the median of at least 3 almost identical runs in each configuration.

Drop In - JB3 Race (beta)
20-90.........7.12s.........606.5ft

BMS Duals - JB3 Race (beta)
20-90.........6.89s.........594.1ft

The duals consistently pulled 3/4 to 1 car length on the drop-in from 20-90mph.

With the duals installed and still running 99 octane I decided to do numerous JB3 Race (beta) vs. JB3 1.1 vs. stock 20-90mph pulls. Here are the median runs:

BMS Duals - JB3 Race (beta)
20-90.........6.89s.........594.1ft

BMS Duals - JB3 1.1
20-90.........6.99s.........598.2ft

BMS Duals - Stock Map
20-90.........8.98s.........776.9ft

You can see that the race map only put a fender length on the 1.1 map while they both put an incredible 12+ car lengths on the stock map. It was very strange to experience stock wot for the first time - I've had JB3 since break-in and thought I'd never hit 90mph!

The race map does feel stronger around town and breaks the somewhat sticky RE-01R 275's loose more often at peak boost in 1st and 2nd. All runs were done with DSC fully off and I did notice during testing a longer 2nd-3rd chirp with the race map. With better traction the race map would have done a little better.

Nice tests.
12 feet ahead in with the DCI...great. Was this repeatable and consistent on several tries?
But 4 feet is more than a fender and a car length is about 18 feet, so a the tuned results pulled about 10 CL's over stock.

The fact the race gas map only pulled 4 feet ahead of the 1.1 is surprising, however, you were still on 99 Octane for both.
So A LOT of the benefits of the race gas map was already being done from the higher octane that even the stock car will take advantage of.

Next test for you.
Take your JB3 and do the same tests on 91 Octane (but only a couple gallons left).
Then dump in a few gallons of 100 Octane to make a 95+ Octane mix.
Let adapt a bit and then go back to the same roads and do the runs again. See how much less time and distance it takes then.

Good data! I wish you could have tested the popular AEM dual filter setup as well...

Hit Apex,

Do you have any other mods to your car other than the JB3 and BMS DCI?

If you get a chance do this same test comparing the stock drop in filter, to the Helene, then the DCI. That would be interesting to see too.
