I think people are gay who think Mini Coopers are gay...
I owned a '05 MINI S 6MT w/LSD. Was lots of fun, but needed extensive modding to make the best of it. Weak points were certain suspension bits, shock towers (prone to mushrooming), instability at high speed, weak brakes, and overall interior materials.

Not sure if you still are active on this thread but I reckon the MCS is a great choice. As what some have said, getting it in the right color is crucial to reduce his perception of the car being gay. I've still got my JCW MCS and I have converted it to a daily driver. Trust me... once your son starts driving the MCS, he'll be hooked. Lol! My E92 M3 only comes out every forth-nightly on the weekends.

Their current tag line for the John Cooper Works model in Australia at the moment is "Do you have the nuts?"
So take from that what you will In Australia they are marketed as boy toys.

yes, cooper is a true gay car. Just looks at those lights in the last post, wtf is that?
the funny thing is majority of people who said the mini gay is females. That prove how gay it is. |

meh, personally I wouldn't buy a mini S, because it isn't exactly the most "manly" car. OP, if you are still reading this, I would definitely get your son an older bimmer. a 2006 330i is around 20k right now.... |

I had the Mini Cooper D as a loaner when my E91 was in for service, fun car to drive but nothing I would consider buying. Here Minis are mostly driven by females, it's a girls car!

On the last episode of SNL, one of the people said he wanted a "gay car, like a Mini Cooper" and got a bunch of laughs and loud cheers from some hicks. Reminded me of this thread
IMO it can be gay or really tight, depending on what you do to it.

qa million exterior pics.. the problem lies within.. the car has the nastiest consol ever.. i can't get over the speedo.. but that is life.. the rest of the car is nice and for the money the handling, mpg, fun factor can't be beat!!! plus chicks love it so he it will help him get some ass!!!
my buddies wrx is a POS.. you could break into it with a toothbrush..secondthe 350 is rattlebox like none other.. not as much interior noise as the wrx but close and you maintenence would be high on all of those cars.. maybe get him a used e46 and get an extended warranty and then sell it a year short of warranty and replace it with whatever your and his financial situation is!! your a heck of a father to get your son any car..it's your hard earned dollar.. and i am sure he will respect it.. he will get over the 50/50 thing.. there is plenty of really cool kits and such for the mini.. the only pain is the dash!! ________ penny stock picks ________ WELLBUTRIN SIDE EFFECTS Last edited by purplewidow; 09-11-2011 at 05:47 AM.. |

Mini = fun to drive, but gay as hell. Only saving grace is that soft tops are always a plus.
civic si = light, generally quick car, but rice prone (i.e. he'd probably end up getting flashy rims, a wing and stickers before he puts a supercharger on it). Front wheel drive would keep him a bit more under control if you're afraid he doesn't learn fast. 350z = pretty fast, but rwd + young guy = hello tree-line. Kid I skated with back in high school had a rich dad that hand-me-downed a supra to him. He had the car for less than a year before shooting off into the trees at over 100. No one got hurt, so all's well that ends well... but yeah. He was in a turn and his rear wheels broke loose under power. wrx = quick car, power potential is awesome if he gets into modding it. AWD so it won't lose control as easily like with the 350. This would be my first pick. My last car was an evo 9 (mitsu's mirror to the wrx/sti), it handled great. I stopped better in the rain than I did dry with my accord, and I could take turns faster in the rain than I could dry with my accord. I drove my friend's subarus, and to be honest I prefer the subaru torque. So I would vote WRX. Or just pick him up a couple year old STI. He'll have a blast with that thing. -scheherazade |
