There are two options: 1) you are blind; 2) your IE doesn't display pictures.

if u bought not coated let us know why, because coated dps keeps warm gas inside and lets tu turbos spin quicker, so for performace its really good, but if u bought only catless dps, u made mistakeMore information on our Ceramic Coatings (taken from http://www.ardesign.info/catalog/ard...ipes-p-72.html ) The coatings we offer are capable of withstanding temperatures of 2000° F. In addition they offer excellent chemical and corrosion resistance and possesses excellent thermal barrier characteristics, providing a dramatic reduction in radiated heat. This means reduced under-hood temperatures, accelerated exhaust gas velocity and a longer life expectancy for the downpipes. Ceramics stand above all other thermal barrier coatings currently being used in combustion chambers. Ceramics have characteristics shared by no other product, providing an unrivaled layer of thermal protection to piston tops, aluminum heads, stainless, iconel and titanium valves. Ceramics "move" heat, reducing detonation and increasing the effective oxidation of fuel. When polished, it provides a highly reflective surface that further aids in improved flame travel. Unlike previous ceramic coatings, ours is not subject to cracking and flaking, which can lead to extensive engine damage. In fact, Ceramic coatings actually strengthen the coated part. The cured "Cermet" provides a cap of material that can withstand far more heat. During testing when sufficient heat was applied to a piston to melt the aluminum, the Ceramic did not melt, rather it held the softer aluminum together. The Satin Ceramic Exhaust Coatings we offer are the most advanced exhaust system coatings available. They are a very durable ceramic-reinforced coating available in various shades. When properly applied, it becomes the most effective thermal barrier coating available, increasing performance while extending component life, and has been tested to over 2000° F without lifting, cracking or flaking ![]()

It would be easier for you to open your eyes and not to ask dumb questions
![]() Oh really, Mr. Whizz? ![]() I do believe that it is not worth paying additional 160$ just for coating. Another thing that I believe - it's better when the heat evaporates rather than stays inside. DPs are not covered with the shroud and air flow underneath the vehicle chills the DPs. And even if I made a MISTAKE, it was my decision that I don't regret. ![]()

Yes, it's true about hot gas - gas velocity speed thing, BUT it's is not very essiantal for spool up. Let me explain: gas "velocity speed" is very important before the turbocharger, because it's spinning your turbo... it is not so essential after turbo, after turbo it's important not to "plumb up" your exhaust. Look at cars prepared for time attack, drag etc.. some of them has side exhausts, or even pipes in front bumper, it's all made to minimize RESTRICTION. In our street (il)legal cars we make catless exhaust, larger diameter pipes, less bends etc. to minimize restriction. So, in this case it would make sense, if we coat or insulate with heat tape exhaust manifold, not DP.![]() The other side of this decision to coat/insulate is heat retention, you already mentioned. There are advantages and disadvantages. When you have insulated manifold/DP, extremely hot gases have negative effect on welds! There are hundreds of threads all over the internet, when guys complain about cracked welds on cheap (expensive as well) exhaust parts of random brands, starting from megan racing and ending with HKS... This discussion can be continued, hundreds of topics and posts we can find in many automotive forums, but I am not sure it's the right place here. P.S. Sorry my english is not perfect ![]() P.P.S. In some cases seller/vendor talks about "special coatings" is just a marketing BS, which helps to sell and actually it works BTW sometimes it happens that all that coats peels off after few hundred/thousand miles...Always think is it really worth to coat, will it give you the desired gain! Use your own heads ![]() Last edited by mechanikas; 04-24-2009 at 12:51 AM.. |

No, you aren't. Read above. There's no one truth (good/bad). There are advantages and disadvantages. And it's up to me to choose.
The only thing you can do is repost, copy and paste what someone has written. Even if it's marketing BS. When you're claiming something but don't have any technical knowledge, you look silly. So, don't bother and PLEASE don't waste your time and do not write here as: 1) your opinion = 0 to me; 2) I can read and you can be sure I had read everything before making a decission and buying something. Same in DPs case. P.S. Good luck with the purchase of RevII, which lasts for more than half a year ![]()

My CANbus wires arrived on Thursday and Saturday was the day they were installed.
As usually, pics: ![]() ![]() The WIRES. Shippment - 76USD. Niiiice. ![]() Time to open the ECU box: ![]() ![]() ![]() Install of the wires: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Even though we watched the installation videos closely, there were some problems... The main reason - videos were made not properly (at least one of the two videos). It was shown how to connect wires into plugs, but there were some wires shown plugged in incorrectly (in the beginning of the vid). ![]() But after the install i started the engine, and checked if CANbus functions worked. Current map indication, code clearing worked. And a bonus: ![]()

Yesterday my Quaife LSD was installed. This time we didn't install ourselves, we let professionals to do the job. Another reason - we didn't have our own car lift. But I was there and wached all the process closely .
![]() Quaife LSD waiting to be installed: ![]() Exhaust, heat shrouds had to be taken off and and driveshafts had to be unbolted from diff case in order to get access to the diff: ![]() ![]() ![]() Differential case cover unbolted: ![]() ![]() Stock differential housing was taken out: ![]() ![]() ![]() First, differencial side bearing race was taken off: ![]() ![]() It was quite difficult to unbolt the crown wheel: ![]() All bolts unscrewed: ![]() Then the crown wheel was bolted on Quaife LSD: ![]() ![]() The "old" differential housing: ![]() Quaife LSD: ![]() ![]() ![]() Then differential case cover bolted: ![]() After heat shrouds, exhaust and driveshafts were put back, ~1,2L LSD oil was poured into diff case. Now the car puls forward much stronger as my 335i is 2wd not. Not 1wd as before ![]()

You will love the Quaife. It feels so great powering around turns.
How did they shim the differential? You didn't show a photo of how they checked the clearances.
