BMC Filter Test

Thanks again to Biscuits for coming down and haveing his car tested before and after the BMC filter upgrade.

Here's the graph (4th gear). I'll let Biscuits do the review on this with respect to the noise.

Interesting and only a very negligable gain.

Would have been good to see a run without a filter in to guage what the maximum gain that could be had, it would also give a guage as to how efficient the OEM filter is.

For such a cheap modification to make 3 bhp through the rpm range is pretty good value for money.

Makes a good noise under load too. Even with a loud exhaust fitted.

Hoops - you'll like this one!

Thanks for the interesting info in this thread. I'll be getting the filter in the course of this week (hopefully, still waiting for it to be delivered) and it's nice to know it helps the performance a bit.

I ordered this as I recently got an "engine malfunction" light which should be due to the OEM filter being clogged so that the boost target increased due to the reflash cannot be reached.

Sal/Imran,

I'm pleased with the filter... for the amount it cost, I really couldn't go wrong.

Would be interesting to see Hoops M3 before and after runs, if he sticks it on the rollers.

The induction noise is noticable, it's like a metalic rasp, nothing like a Saxo with a pair of tights over a trumpet !!!

Thanks again

Paul

Why BMC over K&N though ?

I've had BMC on previous cars - S3, R32, and have always been chuffed with them - 3BHP from a filter is great, especially for the amount of money involved, plus you will get a better induction noise.

I have one on order for my RS4

Cool, I see the motorsports heritage etc but interestingly, they dont list a product for the 335i on the UK website......

It would be nice to see on a dyno graph whether the turbo motor can take advantage of the increased airflow through the stock air box. Anyone done it yet ?

BMC are used as standard in the E46 M3 CSL, so they can't be micky mouse.

That and I trust they Evolve guys, so went with their suggestion.

I saw the unit before andcwhile it was being fitted and it's a pukka bit of kit.

You make it sound like a propper tuning event.

335i filter change takes about 30 seconds if you take your time !

Yves,

BMC, K&N, ITG....... all good filters. I would be happy putting any of those into our customer's cars.

From experience I can also say that there would be no difference in performance between the K&N and BMC.

Sal, thanks for that, BMC looks a wee bit cheaper to purchase so that might swing it for me. Presume its a perfect match for the OE 335i item including the strappy bit ?

Sidenote to Biscuits. My reply to you didnt quite come out right, what I was trying to say was that the M3 Filter swap sounds a bit more involved than mine. Apologies.

No probs... it took all of 5 mins to fit, there were a few TORX screws to remove, lift off the airbox lid, swap filters, replace lid and screw up (so to speak!)

Yeah, did have and no, not noisy at all, very nice sound in fact. Well made too.

Just fancied a try of something else and back to that 'stock' look again.

Whats your experience with BMC then ?
