Good news for anyone doing ED...
I just got word from Ziv that they do not actually drill holes on the European Delivery cars. They actually found a way to attach them by using a screwless mount to attach the german plates. This is very exciting news for me as it was the one reason I was worried about European Delivery.
Thanks Ziv, Matt

In Hong Kong, they just use double side adhessive tape .... I wonder they are strong enough? Why BM doesn't make a factory drilled holes for mounting the plate?

Whoa, do you know what method this is? Is it only good for temporary installs? Why couldn't we use it here to install our front plates without drilling the bumper? Just in case we want to remove them or something later?

This is VERY good news! (if it's true) I was going to go so far as to email Bernhard at the Delivery Center in Munich and beg him not to drill holes in my bumper. It makes sense to use that double sticky foam tape. They used it anyway on the outside edges of my rear plate in addition to the screws...and that stuff is REALLY sticky...it was hard to remove when I got the car redelivered. They probably had too many complaints from people doing ED. Better sell my stock in Bumperplugs.com........

First of all -- how did you guys get Bernhard's name? In any case -- he's the best. But now word is gonna get out, and people will start emailing him...
Anyway, I've done 2 ED's. Guys, think about it -- BMW is smart enough to build amazing cars, they're smart enough to allow you to attach a front plate w/o drilling holes. There is a little 90 degree bracket that goes from the inside of the bumper, up, around the bumper, and it holds the plate. The only reason US dealers drill holes is to make the plate holder even stronger. But hey don't have to. It's strong enough for the euro plates, and should be strong enough for the US plates. SO... Don't worry. No one is drilling holes in your new E90's bumper. It also didn't happen for the E46. If anyone is drilling holes it's your dealer, when the car arrives to the US, AFTER the VPC. They don't even drill holes in the VPC... Cool? |

So I guess a request to the delivery dealer to use the provided bracket to install the front plate instead of drilling holes should be sufficient then. Awesome thanks for the info.

Hey Ziv: Here's my buddy Bernhard. That's my car. That's my front bumper with the 2 holes drilled in it (right in the middle of the front bracket). That's how it was delivered to me last year. So yes, they drill holes in Munich. Maybe not in the E90 but they definately drill holes.

The funny part is how he says "OPTIONS!" when demonstrating the voice command system. He sounds like Col. Klink from Hogan's Heroes. HOGAAAAAANNNN! Oh god, I kill me.

He's the best. I had him 4.5 years for my 01 330Ci, and kept in touch with him since he gave me his biz card. He's a great guy. I've sent 10 of my friends whom all did ED, to him, and they all really liked him too. He's great at what he does. He pretty much has the best job ever.

No differences. It comes with a full tank of 95 octane gas. There's your difference!

Guys,
I need to reverse my words. Sorry. They DO drill holes. It's very disappointing. I spoke with Bernhard and he said that they have to secure the front plate to the bumper this way, and that there is no way around it. I got my car from the dealer. Took off my front plate -- what do you know? 3.5 holes :-( One screw didn't' go all the way in. But you'll have at least 2 holes, 4 worst case. Sorry for providing you with misinformation. I was really disappointed, just like all of you are. |

keep hating them forever. They're small, but annoying. You can always switch out your bumper cover. Or you can put a plate holder there, but that defeats the whole purpose.
It sucks :-( |
