I cant believe the Scottish Government have released Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi the lockerbie plane bomber so he can go home and die with his family in Libya???
compassionate grounds!!!! He didn't show the 270 people on board Compassion when he blew it up He doesn't deserve it, he should be left in Jail to die a slow and painful death. its a bloody disgrace |

But there is a reasonable amount of evidence that he's innocent - though this will now not be tested in court as he was forced to drop his latest appeal in exchange for compassionate release (can't blame him really).
Many see him as just a fall guy, a scapegoat put up by the Lybian's to help facilitate their return to international acceptance, and that he had no involvement in the crime. Britain at the behest of the US needed a conviction, and whilst theirs much to admire about our judicial system, we have been know to get it wrong on more than one occassion. my 0.02 dinar's worth. |

I for one am glad we as Scots stuck to our principles and the Laws we've created. Rather than use the US version of law which is more about doing what wins 'hearts and minds' or lines pockets. Also not impressed at the big boy tactics (that Tony Blair was so affected by) of trying to put pressure on Kenny McAskill, through the media, the US employed. So despite the fact we'll never find out for sure that the guy was a patsy because of what happened, i see no issue with the decision as was made on the grounds/basis it was made.
If anybody reads the broadsheets, you'll know there is so much doubt it would take a fervent believer (American) to not see that the guy was a patsy. But that never mattered to the US (or Libya)as he served their purpose. |

I know what you mean, but for this argument say they had proof it was him they shouldn't be letting him out. They probably know it wasn't him and if he won his appeal the sh*t would hit the fan so they let him out on compassionate grounds so there wasn't any come back.

The "evidence" used was flaky to say the least and in the norm would not have even been submissable in court! He was more or less convicted on the basis of some receipts for clothes and a suspect witness statement by the shop keeper!! Its not like the British Justice system has not got it wrong before....Birmingham 6 anyone.......... what makes me laugh is that people are getting pissed off about this, when they dont even know the bare facts about the case to form an opinion! LMAO |

yes and no but we could have that argument about everyone thats in prison, what we should do is make the fookers work there bollocks off to pay the state back and not let them train all day so they come out looking like Arnie, then we give them new skills and find them a job and relocate them and me and you have to pay for it!! Should lock them in a 6 x 4 cell 24 hours a day just to stare at the walls... If you break the law you should have to live with the consequences. (i'm in a moaning mood today) |

The Scottish government has my admiration and congratulations to standing up to the pressure that has been put on them. The US government should have minded its own business in the first place. I understand the pain of the victims of Lockerbie, but his dying in prison would not have lessened that pain. This man, as Kenny MacAskill said, will face a greater power than any of us holds after suffering a painful death from cancer. Sometimes we have to accept that punishment, in the end, is not in our hands. |

Compassionaite release is a good thing, it is there for those that shouldn't really be in prision a chance to get out, it was just used in this case to get them out of a pickle and to stop them getting eggs on their faces. |
