Removing Sirius Satellite Box Help
Hey guys,
It seems my Sirius subscription ran out. The thing is, I never even use satellite radio so I was thinking of removing my satellite receiver box from the left side of the trunk and put it up for sale. I tried removing it earlier today. I'm sure I removed the right box - it had a black cable and a pink cable connected to it and said Sirius DLP 2.5 on it. I removed the cables and the box. However, upon starting up my car again, I got a SOS malfunction, the Bluetooth didn't work and my radio didn't work. Plugging the black cable and pink cable back into the Sirius receiver made everything work again. How do I go about removing it without the errors? Thanks. |

just taking the module out creates a break in the fiber loop that it, and the tcu, head unit, etc, is connected to.
You will have to reconfigure the fiber connections to remove the unit from the loop. The fiber jumper block is behind the rear seat back on the driver side. (or just the rear seat back cusion on the driver side if you have split fold down back seats. ... or you could leave the sat module in the loop. |

Thanks! Is there a DIY for it or do I need to get my hands dirty?

There's a DYI on how install a sat radio module with the bmw tech instructions in pdf form.
hint - use a flashlight to light up the fiber from the sat module to find them. When re-connecting the fiber cables just think *loop* One more thing - I do not know what will happen with the sat module out but still prgrammed to look for it. You get another error because it's gone. Perhaps a lurking tech can provide an answer. |

Also interested in the sat module. Let me know what kind of price you are thinking about.

If I can remove it without any errors, I'll sell it. I'm still trying to figure out how to re-connect the MOST loop.

I'm having trouble accessing the MOST distribution block. I don't have folding rear seats. How do I get to it?

You have to remove the rear seat bottom first. If I remember correctly you just pull up the front edge and it unsnaps, then you can pull the bottom out of the car completely. Then you have to remove the seatback. There are two T40 (I think) bolts at the bottom they're towards the middle of the seat, unbolt those. Then in the roof of your trunk there are two latches, one on each side that release the seatback. You'll probably need to lay on your back in the trunk looking at the roof to find them. After you've got the seatback removed the MOST distribution block is on the drivers side, you can't miss it. Sorry I haven't been down that way, I just got offered a job up here that I couldn't pass up. If you're ever up this way I'd be more than happy to help. I'll be in town for the Holidays though. If you want to wait that long I'd be more than happy to lend a hand.

I found the two bolts earlier today. I removed one of them but the other one was torqued down very tightly so I couldn't make it budge. I think I stripped some of the thread too. I was hoping there would be an easier way, without having to remove the bolts. I'm going to get a longer wrench and try again next weekend. |

Ok, I'll take pictures of the entire process. I just wish I were strong enough to remove that one bolt. I'll get a bigger wrench and try my hand at it this weekend. |

Yea, mine were in pretty tight too. Once you get to the MOST junction box it's fairly easy. I used a flashlight to identify the cables, made it much easier. Remove the now defunct cable from the loop and you're good to go. My iDrive still shows the satellite radio as an option, it just gives an error when you try to access it, no biggie.

All that's needed is a termination loop, here's a diagram:

It's easier to just close the loop by rearranging the cables so that the two now unused cables line up with each other. No additional parts are needed.

The parts are about $10 from your local dealer.

Once you have access to the MOST junction box take a flashlight and shine it into the satellite radio wiring harness in the trunk. Position it so that it's right up against the cables, remember you're trying to get the light from the flashlight to shine into the cable. Once that's in position remove cables from the MOST junction one at a time, if there is no light illuminating from the cable (it'll be faint but fairly obvious) simply put it back, if you identify one that's lit note its position. Then on the opposite side of the junction box (top or bottom) find the other cable that's lit, move it in the junction box so that it lines up with the other lit cable, I don't believe the position of the cables matters as long as you have live cables going to other live cables. I moved my two now unused cables to the far right end of the box. I think I also had another two dead cables in there that I had to realign (maybe an option I don't have?). If the car is on you should have all the live cables pointing to other live cables. I BELIEVE this is correct, it's been a while since I've done it. If you guys have trouble PM me and I'll go check mine out again.

So if you use the termination loop, I can just add that to the unplugged wire from the satellite box? Which means I don't even have to access the MOST block?

Correct - no need to overcomplicate things.

It does, there's no change in the fiber lines.
