What Tint Percentage | Black E90 w/ Black leather
Since the tint law has changed in Illinois I am ready to put some tint on my e90. I've been looking at different pictures of black e90s with tint and am on the fence between 50% or 35% all around. Given my black interior, I think the 50% should be perfect and not too dark. Exterior body mods are only Gloss shadowline window trim, Mtech kit, shadowline grilles, and M3 spoiler. What do you guys think? Will 35% look to "ghetto"?

Go with 35%, it is a great "happy medium" between too dark and too light. With the back interior, it looks much darker, but at the same time, you are not presenting any safety issues because they are easy to see out of at night. Plus, it is usually light enough that the cops will leave you alone. 35% is definitely not ghetto.... Besides, 50% tint might as well not be tinted at all because it is way too light.

agreed, 35% is nice, and no problem at night, even for a new driver. (myself)

I just put 35% on the sides and 20% on the back of my '09 Titanium Silver. I'm very pleased with the results. Check it out:

I've got Black Sapphire but chestnut not black. I recently went with 35% and it looks light (IMO) mostly because of the interior color. I think 35% will look just right. Heck, since you live in Chicago, if you go to the Great Lakes forum Nebster will tell you to go with 5%!
Pics of my car here (I think you've seen it though as I believe we traded PM's): http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=1#post6001572 Anyway, 35% on a black car is not ghetto. Limo would be ghetto. Most people in Chicago will tell you to go to Umbra in Schaumburg, FYI.

35% looks great, IMO. 50% can sometimes be hard to see, but 35% is just right.

I put 20% on my old black on black e90 and it wasnt too dark at all. I could still see inside the car in bright daylight, but when it was cloudy, it was a little bit harder to see inside. 35% is also good, just its a little bit light for my taste. I have a feeling 50% would be too light.

35% is a good number. Wish they'd give in and let us go 35% front and 20% back, but I'm just glad they finally got their heads out of their asses here. I'll take 35% over 100% any day. I have BSM on black, and I personally wouldn't think 50% would be enough on hot days when you're stuck parking in the sun.

Go with either 35% all the way around or 20% all the way around.
I went with 20% for my coupe.

i'm with most people here, 35% is the way to go for tint. 50% is too light and defeats the purpose of tint IMO.

Same here ^^^. I also have BSM and black interior. I love the "solid" look to the windows with 20% tint. Here in Socal, it's almost always sunny, so 20% worked out great for me. My second choice would be 35%. Like others have said, 50% is just too light. And, I would also say that try to get the same % tint all around rather than splitting b/t front and rear (if possible). Just gives the car a more fluid appearance IMO.

Oh and get Ceramic if you can (Huber Optik, OZ). It blocks heat 3x better than regular tint and won't start to fade after 3-5 years. Only negative is that it is a bit more expensive.
