Ordered the 796 switch on friday morning...I was expecting to receive it yesterday but got nothing...Called crown this morning spoke with Ted he gave me the tracking info for UPS...After tracking I found out that UPS attempted to deliver last night, but since noone was home they would not leave it.....but did not leave a note letting me know.
I called UPS and arranged to meet the driver at my house...While waiting for him I ran inside grabbed a butter knife.....After I met him I hopped in the car and installed it while driving back to my office. Very easy to install...Had a little difficulty removing the left side of the trim panel (probably because I was afraid to break it)...But after playing with it it came right off..Iwill be posting pics tonight...I am also curious to see if the switch on the left (supposed to adjust headlight angle or something) actually does anything...I really could not tell in this sunny New York weather... Thanks to Ted and Ed at crown auto for your help and professionalism...and to the OP for bringing this simple mod to everyones attention.

Sorry for not posting pics of fogs tonight...had to dismantle half of the interior of my wifes new car....
My wife and I picked up a new 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with every option available except for a V8. Navigation Bluetooth Back-up camera Harmon Kardon Factory Remote start (very cool didn't even know it had that) Factory install not dealer. White with gray leather Moon roof fogs etc.... Now for the funny part.... After driving around showing the car to her family and friends she wanted to go to a car wash just to give it a rinse off.... So we go to the after hours car wash where you stay in the car and go through. Now in my 335i if the moonroof is tilted up the shade does not close all the way...so you always know it is open.. Not the case in the jeep.....we though it was closed but it was tilted up....needless to say we go through the wash and water starts dripping from the headliner..... Holy shit...So we got it home as quickly as possible...took my e92 out of the garage pulled in the jeep I set up the space heaters, hairdryers, fans anything i could think of.... I had to remove the a pillars, completely remove headliner, all interior lights in headliner....etc.... Removed it all set it down on garage floor soaked up as much as i could with shop vac and towels....then started with the hairdryer, heaters etc.... So here I am 5 hours later exhuasted and I now have a new Jeep with the cleanest damn interior. So thats my story for the night...and I am going to bed Car is dry...and re-assembled good as new

Ordered mine from Crown on the 17th, got it yesterday, 22nd (Monday was President's day, no mail!). Gonna install it after work today. Also got the Happy Robot mod and trunk rubber mat
I dunno why but I thought this thing was just the button, turns out it's the whole switch unit I was wondering how a button could cost $55+

I tried pushing down on the "gray lock" piece to no avail. Tried pulling it out by brute force and still nothing - and I don't want to damage anything. Is it really a lock sort of thing that needs to be worked a certain way? Cos I was considering using pliers or something to pull it out but I figured before I get that drastic I'd ask here. HELP!!! Oh and I have another problem LOL. In attempting to get the cable out I kinda unscrewed the old switch and the left piece (opposite where the actual fog buttons on the right are, the left plastic cover) fell off, and the switch itself is stuck on the on position (better than being in the off position I guess). Not exactly stuck but it looks like I need to reassemble the old switch properly. And the left cover piece doesn't snap in simply. I put it in but it's not snug. Any help with that? Not a biggy since the goal is to get the new switch in but I'd like to have the old one intact.

Rear fogs on only + grey lock pics
Ok I got it!!! Sheesh I missed something SO obvious. I was a little confused by everyone saying "rotate" and "twist and push down" - I was doing that on the grey lock itself and this whole time the lock really needs to just be pushed downwards to the side but there's a small black stopper that is depressible that prevents the lock from being pushed down. I saw it yesterday but didn't think to push it done. And it's obvious that the grey lock has one way to go since you can see the lock type of mechanism latching from the side. So this 15-20 min mod took me a collective 45mins?
I've attached photos of the grey lock and what I'm referring to for future DIY'ers GOOD NEWS: you can turn the rear fogs on separately. This was mentioned in this thread and someone said they did it w/o having the front ones on. Well I was able to do so by following these steps:
*edit #1: woops, the right spelling is "depressible" in the pic but oh well

Helpful hint: BTW snapping the clips in on the new switch piece (with the plastic trim cover) was not simply a push in and snap / click matter. Mine would snap in on one or 2 sides, not all 4. So what I did was pushed it back out, re-snapped what I could (2 out of 4) then I used my house key to push the plastic clip from behind in further, causing it to snap in place.

I have mine on the E92. Looks just like the other pics posted, so I wont bother taking them. But it works like a dream.
I was driving through a snowstorm this past weekend where I could not see more than 30 ft in front of me. Threw the rear fogs on just so other drivers could see me, and it worked like a dream. The next vehicle saw where I was, and stayed a more than safe distance back. Its times like this that make this mod more than worthwhile... |

My switch came in last week and I did the install soon after the brown truck drove away. It took me 20 minutes and I didn't use any tools.
I was able to remove the vent by pulling on the side closest to the gauges to get it out part way, then just wiggled the door side out, repeat as necessary to remove the entire piece. It's really just pressure fit in there with a couple tapered dowel like pieces on the vent to guide the piece into proper fitment when installed. After that the switch with switch trim comes out easily. For me, BY FAR the hardest part of this process is taking the trim piece off of the old switch. It took me several minutes of pinching the clips while pushing the switch out of the trim with my thumbs. Once I got 1 of the 4 clips slightly undone, I worked on the rest one at a time until the switch was out. Putting the new switch into the trim is easy enough until the last of the 4 clips. That one just took a little muscle. To reassemble took me about 45 seconds. Works great! This DIY rocks! :rocks: |

I got my switch in right before I had to go to work. I couldn't stand waiting so I put in in during the slow time at my restaurant with a spoon and a credit card. I love it. Crown kicks ass! thanks everyone.

This is one of the best and easiest mods I've done so far. I think I like it even better than the short shift knob!

So you can easily order this from any dealership?
Or is this a part where you have to get somebody on the "outside" to order it for you. |

i was doing like 15.....I popped out the trim panel and vent while driving to the highway. Before I got on the highway I was stopped at a traffic light...I used this time to turn the car off and swap the switch real quick. Then I started the car and while I was driving I re-assembled the trim pieces.
