Turbos and HPFP replace in my BMW 335i
Hi,
yesterday I take my car to the dealer for the known problem of "loss of power" and a strange metallic noise under the car... They called me in the evening to say that the problem is... both turbos and the HPFP and they have to replace them... My car is 3 years old and have 44.000 kms... so, it has more than 2 years and hence, no warranty... :-( The solution is about 3.000€. I have asked to BMW (client attention) and they told me that they have to study the problem and depending on the dealer response, they will pay a part of the cost of the pieces or the 100%... I think, in any case, i have to pay the labor... I'm waiting... :-( any advice? Regards Last edited by jluis; 05-05-2010 at 07:39 AM.. |

That sucks.
The metallic noise is most likely waste gate rattle which is why they are replacing your turbos. You can usually find used turbos on ebay for under $500 a set. Closer to 3 if you get lucky. As for the HPFP, at least in the US, its warrantied for 120k miles. Sucks to not have a 4 year warranty. |

Sorry to hijack. I definately want to know how this turns out for you...the dealer here told me that the warranty for BMW is the same for everyone in Europe..but I know that's not true....

One solution would be not to get new OEM turbos but to buy a set of used ones and get the upgraded wastegate from Turbo Dynamics or Rob Beck. You can find more info on both in the forced induction section of this forum. As to the HPFP, a replacement cost me around 600 EUR incl. labour (no warranty due to mods). There's no upgrade for this (yet), unfortunately. Alpina_B3_Lux

Geez..that would suck. But I guess...worst case....I could deal with 600 Euro for everything...as long as when it fails again...they fix it for free....and make sure they put the most current one in there 943

here is the resolution to my problem: - The turbos have no failures but both wastegates have deffects. - HPFP causes loss of power. The total amount of the invoice: 3.131,91€ I contacted the customer service and was told I had to accept the repair proposal and that they would make an important contribution. I accepted it and finally taken out my car. The customer service paid me both turbos and the HPFP. I had to pay the small pieces and the labor. They paid me 1.854€. I paid (aprox): - Small pieces: 275€ - Labor: 975€ If you need more information, please let me know! What do you think? Regards |

BMW has always done the we pay the part, you pay the labor routine. My friend needed a new motor in his X5 at 54k, no warranty. The guy bought a 7,500 sq. ft. new construction in Boston, so it's not as if 14k is a lot of money to him. But it was the principle, having to pay for a new motor at 54k didn't rub him the right way. And in true BMW dealership class act fashion, they accused him of putting stop leak in his radiator. He told them first of all, he doesn't know what stop leak is, and secondly, if you lifted the hood, he wouldn't know where the coolant is even added. So how the f*** would he add stop leak to it? That's like when my car stalled repeatedly, they asked me if it's been in an accident. I f'in park the thing a football field away from the front door of my office to avoid dings. It doesn't so much as have one ding, believe me, it hasn't been hit and repaired from an accident. LOL
Anyhow, we can see the turbo replacement has come way down in price. It used to be nearly 7k. |
