Here's my installation highlight on my buddy Bob's '08 E90 335i:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189198 It's a good unit folks, and at that's a pretty darn good price. |

How does this compare with the UUC SSK? Based on their description it seems like the best one out there to me, but this is the first I've heard of this one.

Common features: Encased pivot bearing design, pivot relocation for optimum geometry. Stainless steel stick assembly for strength and durability. Roughly 25-30% throw reduction ideal for ergonomics without dramatic increase in shift effort, bearing offers a more direct, mechanical feel to shifter than rubber ball on urethane cup. These are all benefits above and beyond what the BMW Performance shifter offers (for less $$$). UUC additional features: Adjustable upper stick for additional knob height adjustment, application specific bend for OEM stick angle. B&M additional features: Oil impregnated self lubricating brass bearing, million mile warranty. To keep it simple: UUC shifter applications are specific to a 335i or a 328i or a 330i or even a 135i and 128i. All these models have slight different bend in the actual stick assembly. With an UUC unit the stick should fall relatively to the same location as the OEM stick. The B&M stick is designed to fit multiple applications, the bottom half of the stick is the same between a lot of these models, so the result is the B&M unit will leave the stick leaning about 5 degrees closer to the driver in all gears on the 335i. The most dramatic case is in the Z4, I have the same B&M unit in my MZ4 Coupe and it leans about 5 degrees closer to the driver and another 5 degrees toward the back. UUC is also height adjustable, but I've found that feature results in slightly more interior noise because of the adjustable mechanism compared directly to the B&M unit. In the end, there are more similarities than differences between the two. While the B&M is cheaper, it's mainly because B&M builds more units and sells through a much larger distribution channel, therefore they can compete on a per-unit cost even though both are built to the same high standards (I'd go into details about economy of scale but I'd bore you to death). Having owned and installed both companies products in my cars in the past and having lived with them for extended periods, all I can tell you is, it comes down to personal preference. They are both GREAT units and excellent mod. The B&M is a few bucks cheaper, easier to install, and a little quieter. The UUC I was able to adjust to the lowest knob setting for a little extra "shortness", knob fell exactly to where I'm used to and comfortable with, and the little bit more noise I was okay to live with. So to answer your original question...It's a personal preference. |

I'm buying it - group purchase or not. What I was most impressed with was how definitive the shifts were. It is much more sharp and precise than the stock shifter setup (at least for the 330i and I imagine the stock 335 is similiar).
