HPFP issue - first timer

Hey, I got my first HPFP issue. I recently got a SES light on the dash board and after changing my oil today, I asked for a scan. They showed me what the scanner showed, and it read something about the HPFP (nothing specific). I'm assuming these guys aren't familiar with the 335 HPFP problem, so he just cleared the code for me and told me if the light came back on to go see him. So, I turned my car off and on (about 15 minutes later) and the SES light came on.

From my understanding, we get a 120k manufacturers warranty. I just want to know if this applies to pre-owned vehicles. I bought my car second hand. I would much rather have this fixed via warranty than to pay a local shop to do the work for me.

If it applies for me, how does the process go? Do I have to bring in any paper work or something at BMW? Will it cost me anything?

Otherwise, how much would it cost me to purchase a new HPFP?

Thanks in advance.

No paperwork required, but DON'T clear the code again...dealer won't fix it if they don't see the code. Take it into your nearest dealer and ask them to fix it. Covered for all owners for 10 years / 120K miles.

called in this morning. they told me i had to get it scanned at BMW, and that if at any other shop, it wouldn't count. They told me I'd have to bring it in tomorrow instead of today (because they're busy) and that it'd have to stay at least for 24 hours.

Anyone has experience with Life Quality BMW in Brooklyn NY?

oh, another question I want to add.

Since the dealer is going to take my car for servicing tomorrow, should I still drive it tonight? Or just let it sit?

Is there any dangerous situations that I might want to be aware about?

I wouldn't recommend it unless you absolutely have to. I just had my 2nd HPFP failure and I'm at 57** miles.. I've had the car picked up from my house both times.

yeah i took your advice. didn't drive it, except like 4 avenues away for the BMW service center. they told me it's going to take several days. Damn.

I'm at 57k as well and I'm out of warranty (except for the HPFP), am I still eligible for a rental car?

These are questions specific to the dealer in regards to the rental car.

Some dealers offer a courtesy car if you purchased the car there.

Other dealers offer a courtesy car regardless. The latter is rare.

As long as the part is in stock it should only take a day.

The rules have changed with the installation of the -943. My dealer can change a HPFP in four or five hours, including testing. But this time, they had to get prior approval to install the -943. BMW directed them to open a PuMA case, submit my VIN for pre-approval at which the part was then released from the local parts distribution center. Then the car's software was updated to latest and greatest. All told - almost three days. (again, the part R&R only took half a day.)

Fortunately, I was given a nice 528i for a loaner, so it wasn't any bother to me.

So, I've brought my car back to Life Quality recently and Nick (hate that guy) says he can't do anything for me because I've modded the car.

I have exhaust, DCI, & JB3. Should that affect the coverage on HPFP failure?

You left all that in when going in for warranty work???? Remove DCI/JB3 and go to another dealer/
