Great news on my Lease
Just wanted to let you guys know that I got great news today on my lease agreement. Not only did I find out that my 330i is being produced today (a week early) but my sales associate called me and told me the money factor dropped this month and reworked my lease down from 645 per month to 606 per month. For those who have missed my earlier posts the deal is for 36 months, 15k per year and 2000 total down at signing. The sticker price is 46,315. money factor went from.0027 to .0023. I am very pleased!!!

To each his own, I have always put 2000 total down including upfronts and 1st months payment on all my cars now for the past 10 years. Old habits die hard. It is only about 1000 down if you do not include the upfronts.

Umm, the base lease money factor for October on that lease was .00225 (or .00240 with no security deposit). Your dealer was making a bunch of money off you with a MF of .0027 and is still making a bunch on a .0023 if the rates actually dropped.

They are sellling the car to me for about 4% over invoice or $2500 off msrp. That is as good of a deal as you are going to get for a loaded 330i. Plus it is an added bonus to me that I ordered the car and I am getting exactly what I want.

Something is wrong with your numbers. How can your lease payment be so high even with 2k down? For comparison, my 330i (ZSP, heated seats, metallic paint and CA) lease for 12k miles/3 years is now $484/month after 6% NJ tax. It was $541/month in September, and $515 in October. That is assuming ONLY the acquisition fee down ($625).
Give us more details and we'll see what deal you're getting. By the way, the base MF rate for Nov is 0.00195, so the dealer is definitely padding that number. Think of it like the dealer charging you several $100 more or even $1000 more for you car. Give us all the details of your lease (MSRP, miles/yr, # of years, selling price, MF, exact down payment after fees, tax rate, state).

While I'm at it, let me give you another helpful data point.
On my lease I was able to negotiate the base MF rate (0.00195 in Nov) and $1000 over invoice on my car (selling price of $37,975). This translated to a payment of $484 using all of the variables in my specific situation. As a hypothetical exercise, I calculated what would happen if my dealer charged me a MF of 0.0023 instead of the base rate. My payment would go up to $507. This is the EXACT SAME CHANGE that would happen to my monthly payment if the dealer charged me $38,692 ($717 more) on the selling price of the car. Moral of the story: Dealers make money from you from several places in this process. A good deal on selling price can be offset in several places. Minimize their TOTAL profit off of you.

Can you guys give me a short summary of what's involved in leasing? My M is going to be around $62k after taxes. What are all the fees involved and what are warning signs that my dealer is taking advantage my lack of information in regard to leasing?
For those of you who just set up a lease, what type of negotiating strategy do I need to apply? I've financed two cars in my past, so I'm aware of what to look out for in that regard. With leasing, I'm a complete noobie.

First, read everything on this site: http://www.leaseguide.com/
Everything. Then, download a lease spreadsheet and start playing around with it to see what your monthly payment will be. We can answer specific questions you may have. Re: negotiations, it's pretty simple. After you've decided the car you want, go to a dealer that minimizes your MF (ideally the base rate) and your selling price so that you have the lowest monthly payment. Residuals cannot be altered. If you want us to look at a sample case, please give us: type of car, # of months, # of miles/year, MSRP with options and destination, selling price with options and destination, State, and tax rate.

Do you know if the MF and residuals are different for the 325 and the 330? Either way, where can I find the most up to date information?
Thanks!
