Basically, BMW has removed the annual requirement and is basically relegated consumers to the CBS intervals. With 22k miles a year I'm not affected but it affects those folks that drive little. |

I'm sure that was mostly sarcastic, but the good news is this new policy doesn't take effect until 09/01/10. So if anyone out there is due for their low mileage change and they're between 6K and ~15K miles I would call the dealership and get it scheduled pronto.

as for the initial change, yes you need to change the oil at somewhere between 500 and 1500 miles. this is simply to "wash" all the milling shavings out from the new motor. Sometimes there is stuff in there that doesn't get cleaned out. thats all it is... And ... fyi. Ive built more motors than I care to even mention... So I know where Im coming from on this... |

Im not getting sucked in to an internet expert talk as i just dont flat out care anymore.. just trying to help. Ill just say, your wrong and EVERY manufacturers specs will probably show this... Mobile1 was the first to show zero breakdown past 15k miles. check your facts again. they were actually the pioneers in this arena.

doesn't matter cuz the 1yr/15k mile oil change is worthless anyways....4 yrs = $240 (price if I was to DIY) no big deal even if they took that away

Ok, I'll just say you're wrong too. Let's just leave it to the rest of the forum readers to believe Blackstone Labs - who granted may have a conflict of interest, or a 26 post troll. Bye bye!

They can't retroactively change your warranty! You get what the warranty / maintenance service was at the time you purchased the car. It's called a contract!

Amsoil do have an LL01 approve oil
Had my car for 5 years and had used LL01 and non-approve oil......LL01 is just recommended, it's not something you have to use or your engine is going to explode....relax everyone

ska - you just like stirring the pot. Please put your money where your mouth is and show us where amSOIL has an LL01 approved oil. Don't post any long winded posts - just SHOW us proof. And yes, there is a requirement to use LL01 approved oil in order to keep your warranty intact. Last edited by cb1111; 08-29-2010 at 09:42 AM.. |

They didn't change your warranty. As long as they don't change that then they can change the "free" services all they like.

I'm happy to report I will be well under 6,000 miles at my 1 yr service visit. I broke out the old Excel sheet and calculated the remainder of days before my 1 yr and I will be a good 100 miles under 6,000 if I stay within the mileage I've driven historically. Take that BMW. |

The dealers in Europe are MAKING money on oil change services. I'm not saying that the suggested interval is right or wrong, I'm simply suggesting that cost is likely not the main factor here. |

my bad, they're just BMW LL04 approved and all other German made approved.
so do not put this stuff in your E9x engine, cuz your E9x engine is more high-tech/advance than all other German builts...IE Porsche, Merc, Volvo, Saab, VW BMWs are built by Aliens and you must use LL01...even Porsche cant touch our BMW engines •API SM/CF •ACEA C3 •ACEA A3/B3 •ACEA A3/B4 •BMW LL-04 •Mercedes Benz 229.31, 229.51 •Porsche •Saab •Volvo •Volkswagen 502.00, 505.00, 505.01 •DaimlerChrysler MS-10725 Quote:

"AMSOIL 100% Synthetic European Car Formula is formulated to surpass the most demanding European specifications. It is recommended for European and North American gasoline or diesel vehicles requiring any of the following worldwide specifications:" Quite simply, my (by now famous) maple syrup, cottage cheese and Paulaner blend - made with the finest kung PAO base - is formulated to surpass the most demanding European specifications (which ones we'll never know because I, just like anSOIL, won't actually get it tested. I'll just say it surpasses "euro specs") I recommend mine for Euro and US cars too - just like amSOIL says "it" is recommended. Make no mistake - NO European manufacture has ever certified amSOIL for use in any of their cars - nor has amSOIL ever bothered to try to get their sludge tested. Their claim that their oil exceeds a nice listing of specs doesn't make it any more compliant than my maple syrup blend - which, BTW, is pretty tasty as a marinade. The only way to keep your warranty intact is use lubricants that have been approved by BMW - they have a list on their website and ONLY those oils are approved. Hint: amSOIL isn't on the list. |

I'm a big fan of long oil change intervals. I used to regularly go 7.5k to 10k miles on previous vehicles and not bat an eye lash. I would go to the recommended 15k on this car too but I drive it hard, longer and farther than any car before it. The whole turbo thing throws a whole new dynamic into the equation. Also call me paranoid but I don't see it in BMW's best interest to make these engines run forever.
