How much does it cost to get the driver's seat leather replaced?
I have an e92 with the saddle interior and the front seat is a little worn down. I'm very picky about how pristine the car is and while it wouldn't bother 90% of people I'm going to eventually replace mine. What's the cost involved? I can't find any replacement parts online, and I'm a little worried about being disapointed at how much it will cost. I don't plan to do this imediatly but it would be nice if it wasn't so expensive.

I don't think cleaning it will help, the issue is that the texture of the leather has worn down on the driver's seat cushion, so it looks smooth and shiny. It's pretty much like it's been buffed smooth.

Get a good vinyl/leather repair shop to restore the seat for you. Good shops can make them look like they just rolled out of the assembly line, and they can come out to your car. Cost could be anywhere from 100 up depending on how much work they have to do

I think it's funny how one man's garbage is another man's treasure. For me, I don't like the look of new leather seats at all. To me, they don't look good until they show the natural patina, creases and characteristics of a natural product. Nothing looks better than a slightly aged leather seat that's conditioned and supple. I guess that's what makes us all different and the world go around.

Yeah like a nice big comfy leather recliner... that is nice and smooth. As long as there aren't any cracks, that's fine-- it even contributes to the car's "classic" look over time. Worn leather is softer, more luxurious feeling, more flexible. New leather seats are rough and hard, like a new baseball glove or new leather shoes that have to get pretty worn-in before they get comfortable. The upside to the rough-from-the-factory leather is that it provides more grip. Also, in my last car (135i) I was the only one in the car most of the time, so the driver's seat looked more "supple" than the passenger seat. I don't mind the slightly worn look, but it bothered me that the two front seats looked different. I guess if it's too much of a problem, the driver and passenger leather can be swapped to even out the wear a bit-- but that would be a pain to do.

Post pictures. I suspect that Leatherique could bring back that "dull" original finish.
I have 25k on my saddle seats and the driver's seat still looks like new - but I treat it regularly with Leatherique. |
