If you ever do go to the PRC, do make it a point to go to a bar. They nearly all do karaoke before midnight. In the main, many people that do it are reasonably good...

There are actually even huge karaoke "palaces" that are about the size of Vegas hotels and decorated in the lobbies like 5-star hotels. You go there and the folks that greet you are in black tie and evening gowns; indeed the women are downright hot and chosen as hostesses for specifically that reason. Often, you need to reserve a room in advance; it's that popular. (Then again, the PRC has 22 cities having more than 10 million people in them -- I'd never even heard of most of them until I went there -- and even a small city has 3-6 million residents.)

When you go, you are shown to your room. The room is equipped with state of the art karaoke machines, microphones, sound effect controls, and some even have video. The rooms are nicely furnished, spacious, private and sound-proof. You can be a star!!! You will also get a great buzz on drinking!!!

This is something young folks do in groups of four or more before going bar hopping or on to other things. Families and friends get together to do it. As fun, family entertainment it's not a bad thing really -- fun, safe, lets the kids poke fun at the adults (something they would never do in other situations), and a good bonding opportunity. Office groups to to these places as a team building thing. (But then the Chinese do a boatload of team building things, and there's some small team building activity every day in many companies.)

yeah, ktv's are big and common there. people here go to bars and hang out, everyone in asia (mainly china, taiwan, japan...) go to ktv's. it's cheap, you rent a room, it's clean, order food, drink, sing, great drunken time.

then there are the hostess versions. these places are even better (and obviously mainly for guys). besides your drinks, food, etc, you have your personal hostesses too for each guy who pour the drinks for you and join you in singing if you want. depending on the type you go to, they'll either continually strip for you as the night progresses, or they'll just strip in the beginning and will be your "companion". pretty much private strip club and ktv mixed together. there are places that don't have the whole stripping action, but obviously not as popular. depending on shadiness, you can pay a "house fee", and enjoy the ladies either in more private rooms, or do some personal negotiations and take them somewhere else.

lotta places in the US have tried to imitate them, but will never match the intensity of the ktv's in asia.

Heck, even the brothels in NV don't deliver as well as the massage parlors in the PRC do....

I think the rest of the world is perfectly OK with the fact that humans are sexual beings and they don't, therefore, try to hide or fight that fact.

One thing's for sure, there's no guy in Asia who's got blue balls or pent up frustration. Maybe that's a contributor to those countries' low incidence of murder and rape??? Sh*t even bar fights are pretty uncommon.
