335D got dynoed today
With the pending re-map, I thought I'll get before and after dyno readings for comparison.
Charlie at Surrey Rolling Road did a few runs with my car today. The readings were pretty consistent. Because the car is an auto, only rear wheel BHP can be measured. I would have thought the difference between crank and rear wheel BHP is around 25%. So with those figures, we are looking at 278BHP at the crank, whcih is 8BHP down from the manufacturer's quote of 286BHP. Torque is at 335ft/lb. Again given the 25% difference, we are looking at 420ft/lb, 19ft/lb down from the manufacturer's quote of 439ft/lb. However, the engine has only done 2500 miles. This is the power curve printed on the brochure. It'll be interesting to see what the new readings are next weekend at the dyno meet (at www.surreyrollingroad.co.uk) after the re-map on Monday. Here is a video of the run. As you can see, the 335D is so silent that the engine and exhaust noise is completely overidden by the cooling fan noise. |

But is the 335d really that much better than the outgoing M3??

If we assume your car is actually achieving 282BHP at the crank (although BMW quote 286BHP, that’s actually 286PS), then the driveline is “adsorbing” 23%; not to bad for an automatic, although I would have hoped BMW’s drivetrain would be more efficient, say 20% to 21% loss, which means you’re about 2% down on BHP etc, something I would put down to your low mileage. |

I'm always reading that BMW figures are generally quite modest, a bit disapointing to hear yours isn't quite on target
when are you getting remapped? mine is next week |

thought the bmw figure was at the flywheel not the crank or the two figures identical???? 25% sounds a bit much for a 2wd car would have thought much less 4wd usually loses that much peppernick~: do you think you could have got into the 13's with the car in stock trim considering you were so close? thanks carl |

15% to 25% loss is for two-wheel drive. I would expect manuals to be nearer the 15% and automatics nearer to 25%. Can’t really comment on 4x4, not having any experience with them. |

The 335i has consistently put out 270-280HP to the rear wheels with auto trans. Your numbers sounds really low for a car that is suppose to make 286hp.

You really need a 335i on that same dyno (and ideally the same atmosheric conditions) to make a fair comparison. Regards Chris

peppernicks e92 got remapped today (i know cuz i speak to simon at e-maps who's gonna do mine...) - he said the car went to somewhere between 350 and 360BHP and about 720Nm of torquey goodness
can't wait to get mine done, those are some almighty figures i'm sure the man of the moment will be on here soon enough to tell us all how good it is |

All done! The best mod so far for my 335D. She's a different car altogether!
