Anyone notice the difference?
Apparently the newer models oil temp gauge reads much higher, and the middle one reads 250, not 210

It's okay, some people around here really enjoy repetitive posts talking about the same topic.
I like the new gauges personally. It was just to keep people from freaking out at seeing the gauge go much passed the 1/2 way mark. Another reason to call 335i's made after March 2007 (2007.5) |

So I guess a new gauge is cheaper than an oil cooler. That's a great fix. I get it. Instead of a fix for the fuel pumps, they will just lower the speed limits to 10 on the interstate. That way the car will still get up to speed just fine!

It does make no sense--so on the new gauge, you have no reading from 120-160, because the old gauge started at 120. The fact that it goes to 340 is of no use because people say limp-mode is at 300, and my car runs at 250 tops. Probably a supplier in China printed the gradiation wrong but they can't hold up production due to the error, so they spin it.

This sounds like one of those "They're not doing what I wanted, so they're stupid" kind of threads.

Randall took delivery of 2007.5 E93 335i over at bimmerfest. It is automatic with SP and DOES have the oil cooler (as well as the new gauge).

Guys, I'd say the change in the gauge serves two purposes:
1. 335i buyers that DON'T get the sport package (and therefore no oil cooler) won't freak out by their gauge getting up close to the 300 degree mark. Now it will be just passed 1/2 way and they won't think twice about it. 2. All Sport Package cars will now have the oil cooler so it shouldn't matter as the car shouldn't get up to the 300 degree mark and go into limp mode during hard driving anyway. |

Serves a couple of other purposes also: 3. Drive 335i owners crazy. 4. Gives 328i owners a nice oil temp guage to look at. I think its strange that they are also adding the extra oil cooler to the 328i with sport/step starting with March production. Guess we just get an extra oil cooler.

1) I didn't realize that sport package cars now get the oil cooler and the non sport don't? I DON'T SEE WHAT THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE MOTOR AT ALL!
2) I wonder why bmw changed the gauges? I mean did they adress the problem? It seems from reading the boards a lot of people that are knowledgeble say these temps are TOO high..so bmw changes the faces to ease paranoyia? I'm sure SOMEONE out there has a solid source from bmw that can elaborate |
