Pros Cons of Ram Air Scoops?

Pros and Cons? Purpose? Other than a good look through the grills

If you have an open air intake then they are worth it, they will channel more air directly into the open air system. The factory intake can't benefit much from a set of scoops.

On any turbo or supercharged engines air scoops do not do a thing for our engines because the compressors in a turbo and supercharger are increasing the air pressure going into the engine. Scoops or ducts only work on N/A ENGINES (like ramair intakes)

I was skeptical to whether or not these added power, but I had purchased an early version of these and tested them out with the AFE intake I already had. Before I had them, after a few full throttle pulls, the intake filters would get extremely hot. After installing them, I performed the same test and the intakes were only slightly warmer than the ambient temperature outside. I will say at highway speeds, they helped with throttle response.

I thought "Placebo effect?"... maybe, but I could swear once I parted out my 335i and went back to the stock intake tract, it didn't seem as lively. If you have the DCI/scoop combo with a tune, I'm sure you will see some benefit.

This absolutely FALSE. A real air scoop can give a real benefit also on turbocharged engine. Increasing pressure before the compressor means that the turbo has to do less work to obtain the target boost pressre.

lol how does one increase atmospheric pressure before the turbo inlet....most certainly not from a silly scoop.

Umm...yes.

Think of if it was the stock OEM airbox. If you're doing 70mph, there is a significant amount of CFM being pushed into the scoops and being forced into the airbox, thus raising pressure.

If it's a DCI, at speed it's kinda supplying colder/fresh air to the intake area. l

and even then they usually do nothing unless they are well designed and the scoops are very tall (there is very little air movement over the first ~1.5" of the hood

Only benefit I can think of is possibly getting colder air around my Injen DCI.

Except you don't have $39 bucks!

No measurable gain since the turbos are sucking are much faster than the ram air could help - the red ones do look a bit cool behind the grills I will admit though!

I speak of effective air scoop, the statement that a scoop on turbo engine is ineffective is false.
