Powerbox self reset?
Hi all,
I have been running with Powerbox for a few months and I do enjoy driving with map 3. However, everytime after a few weeks of driving, the car feels like it returns to stock setting, and I will need to re-set the powerbox to map 3. The car then feels alive again after I set the mapping to 3. I am wondering anyone has similar experience as I do, that powerbox will self reset to stock setting...I know how to play with powerbox so I am pretty sure I do not accidentally reset the setting while I start the car. Thanks. |

wow that is the exact feeling I get but I thought I was just getting used to the tune.. For the first few weeks I had the PBX, I've been constantly resetting it to map3 because it felt like it reset itself. Now I just don't bother because I thought it was all in my head. But maybe it is in fact resetting itself to map 0 ???

you guys are aware that all new ECUs learn driving habits. They compesate automatically for how you are driving. That being said it is compensating from the power box. Because it isnt a real tune it is just modifying the inputs the ECU uses, so over time its ability to do what it is doing degrades. The ECU (DME) naturally throttles back the fuel and what not.... That being said, get a tune, since it modifies the DME's fuel maps it will not scale back the amount to fit into the preprogramed usage.
Basically your fooling the car into putting more fuel than it normally would into the cylinders. So over time it compensates and reduces the amount it fuel it is dumping in. |

Honestly, resetting my PBX setting is the best thing I've done in a long time. Thank you.
I've had it since it's first came out & never touched it since the other day. WAY better....

Hey guys,
I purchased a PBX for my 330i last December but have been waiting for the summer to install it. I keep reading people have to reset it every now and then, what is the reset process? Is it difficult? Does it involve unplugging the car battery or disconnecting the PBX? Thanks |

Every 6 months I reset my throttle and the PBX. I start to notice after a while that the throttle response reverts back to having that crappy lag that it was born with.
Guess I'm still 'old school' and like the instantaneous reponse of mechanical throttle linkage. That was one of my biggest dislikes of my new BMW, for a high end car with all this supposed great engineering, the driveability basically sucks compared to other cars I have owned. When I hit the gas - I want it to react immediately, not have a 2-3 sec lag between my input and something happening. Just another example of gov't laying down mileage requirements that require, among other things, Drive by Wire to meet...
