Tyre Insurance
I’ve had a good search on this one but nearly all discussions are around the tyre insurance sold by BMW dealers.
Does anyone have any tyre insurance which was bought from a 3rd party (i.e. not the BMW approved dealer). I bought my E91 as a used approved BMW from Stratstone but they don’t offer tyre insurance, unlike some other BMW approved dealers. I am aware that car2cover do tyre insurance and seem to get reasonable review but this can only be bought for cars up to 2 years old, as mine is a 2007 this is obviously not suitable. The AA seem to offer it but the detail on their website is sketchy. Anyone have any experiences with this? I know the other option is to ditch the RFT’s but assuming I keep them what are the options? |

From what I've read when I looked into it, tyre / alloy insurance is a bit of a fools game. Even when you do claim, and it is passed, you get a reduced rate to allow for mileage, which means you get about £1.50 toward the cost of your new tyre.
If (like me) your job or lifestyle means you get punctures then I'd perhaps just look at using cheap tyres like Falkens or Toyos to lessen the blow. |

Well I have BMW tyre insurance and can't complain. 4 weeks into ownership, screw in tyre. Down to dealer, new one on and nothing to pay. Old tyre only had 3mm on it so didn't have much life left in it. The cost of the insurance is almost paid for. I seem to get close on one flat a year since being on run flats in BMWs and Minis.
Non BMW tyre insurance has caused issues for others, and not all know how to deal with run flats. I'm sure if you call BMW insurance yourself, they will be happy to sell you a policy. On balance, if you are keeping your run flats it's one of the few 'insurances' that are not bad value. |
