Car keeps going through injectors - thoughts?
07 335i - 60,900 miles (CPO, extended maintenance), have owned it since 30k miles
It has had (among other things) a set of plugs, 3 coils and EIGHT injectors in the 2 years I've owned it. The first time the injectors were replaced it was all 6, which was fine for a while (and this was the new part # injector...well before the recall happened). More recently, injectors were replaced on cylinders 5 and 6. Yesterday on the highway I got a misfire, checked the code, misfire cylinder 4. SES light stays lit after several cycles. Gas has always been 93 octane Sunoco, rarely anything else. All misfires have been experienced with NO TUNE, including the one yesterday. I know injectors go bad on this car...but eight of them (now possibly 9) in 30k miles? I feel like this shouldnt be happening this much. When I get the misfires it's generally highway speed, taller gears, with mid-rpm high load situations (e.g., in 4th, step on the gas at under 3k rpm, boost starts to build...hesitation...shake...SES light). Getting really fed up with it. Is it possible the BMW software is just that bad? When I've had the COBB installed I have had 0 issues. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm at 12 new injectors in 48k miles....
How you describe the misfires occurring is exactly how it starts for me when one (or many) are going bad. It usually will get easier and easier and start misfiring in the shorter gears as they get worse.

12 new injectors in 20k miles, here :-)
And 6 coils, 4 HPFPs, deep cleaning of valves, new valve cover/gasket, plugs, ..... My symptom was rough idleing/lurching at low RPMs.

Still concerning though that, even though you've had 12 in 48k miles, if I end up having 9-12 in 30k, that's still 18000 miles sooner than yours gave out.

My friend just ordered a 2011 328 msport (E90). First thing I thought was damn, that's so awesome he wont have to go to the dealer every 2 months for engine lights.
Pretty sad actually.

I wouldn't think so since the injectors are constantly firing into the cylinder after the valves.
I am wondering if running a bottle of Techron gas treatment would help you guys assuming its not misfires due to carbon build up in the valves. I know i felt my idle started to have a small stumble after 10K miles and after pouring in a bottle of techron (same as the bmw stuff) the stumble went away completely.

I wonder if it is possible for a misfire to be caused by carbon buildup in the valves and, if so, whether there's any way to tell if that's the problem instead of an injector. If all the code says is "misfire cylinder 4," that isn't super helpful in getting to the root of the real problem, especially if new injectors make the problem go away for a little while regardless of a bigger underlying problem.
Anyway, even if it's not carbon buildup I think there must be something else going on...injectors shouldnt be going bad with this frequency on decent gas.

My car has 28K miles too and been through a set of injectors too. Nothing unusual about that in these cars. Its a Sep 07 Build 335i. In addition to that have had 3 HPFPs, 2 new solenoids, a set of Turbos. It wasn't boosting and I was in rattle hell for a while. They went through all the usual replacements found wastegates weren't seating right. New ones went in it still wouldn't hold boost. Discovered the solenoids were bad. BMW decided to replace everything and all is good again. My CCC, IDrive, Most bus, amplifier and Some module all replaced too. Seriously the car is now better than it was when new. It runs much smoother and no crapolla rattling like a bunch of coins in a can.
I am just out of warranty now, and wondering if I should dump it when I get to around 50K miles. Honestly I feel owning one is a blast, but a bad investment all the same, because I can't see the issues ever ending. I had an E46 M3 I sold with barely 9K on it and went to a E46 330ci because that M3 was just endless problems and I got fed up. I had motoring bliss for a while in the 330ci. Only issue was two bad steptronics. First one at 90 miles, and the replacement one at 112K and I had to pay out of pocket for a new one. I swore it was the last BMW for me, but then came the 335i and one drive in it, it was just too much to resist. Crossed my fingures hoped for the best, but it too turned out to be a stealership frequent flier. Love it though, and I got a RAV4 for a reliable vehicle. It has 33K, and never a hiccup, not one. Only oil change and thats it. Now the BMW.... So much for the ultimate driving machine, or is it Joy BMW

Carbon build up on the valves can give you misfires due to blocked are flow and mimic a bad plug or injector. Just talk to the Audi guys about misfires and carbon.

Maybe the new ones are better? lol.
