Whats funny is on our GL350 bluetec there's an opening between pan and engine, I found out you have to turn over the crankpulley and at some point see a drain hole for the torque converter - Mercedes beat bimmer in this category

The dealer. They are not cheap here in Canada. C$15 a piece seems to be the best we can find. Online they are about US$9 a pop.

We should have a video up shortly. Hope it will turn out, but is done with my old pocket camera that was drenched with oil in the process. |

Mercedes just has not figured out the joys of lifetime transmission fluid. They will catch-up eventually.

a week ago while shifting hard from 6 to 5th (going 70mph?) my car went into limp mode with a transmission malfunction error. pulled up a dreaded "4f85 ratio monitoring clutch e" code. I cleared it and it has not returned in over a week, and I haven't really felt any gear hunting or rmp surges when driving (D or DS mode) since. I'm at 84k miles and replacing the AT pan and fluid today with the CTSC kit. This is the car's first ATF change (I've only had it since 74k miles), so I'm interested to see what kind of shape the fluid is in and how the car shifts afterwards.
I thought I'd update and bump this thread. Will keep you all posted. I'm hoping to avoid a tranny rebuild if I can. Any chance that 4f85 code was a hiccup, but I don't think it was by accident. |

Redline d6 works great for me. I recommend you overfill a little by having the car back angled up. The Ford guys saw issues with consistency of fill when measuring the drained out from factory vs how much fit back in.
Example, I drained 6, could only fit 5.. Wth? And yes, i did the stupid procedure following Rheingold. Later I had occasional hard shifts and that issue, clutch ratio blabla. Added a qt by angle of car and it's good since then. I think zf is just German, like they probably shim the lift so it's perfectly level according to nasa specs lol. Redline is great, thinner than zf lg6 when cold and thicker when warm, way less sharing. But the smell is horrible |

Not sure if the youtube video was intended to have audio or not. I can't hear anything. I checked other youtube videos to make sure it wasn't a setting thing on my pc. I even tried with a different laptop too and same video result only. None the less, thanks for posting.

I ran some commentary for the video
-strip drain bolt it will eventually come out -tap transmission point at hole and play with flappy tube -remove the pan -look at it and wonder what did you just get yourself into -rub and poke at the bolts -look up the side and poke -pat the trans brace -remove transmission mount and brace -play with spinney connector -poke the connector with screw driver -pull tab -jam screw driver into plastic connector and pry like hell -look at the part destroyed -look at valve body and ask again why did I do this -the valve body disappears -random hand comes out of nowhere -stab pick into hole -now needle nose plyers -rip out rubber -look at shiny part and dull part -defy mankind and have three hands! -shine a light and figure out what you just did -valve body reappears -point around -poke new O-rings -put connector back in -push up tab -when tab is pushed up everything will reappear assembled -hold up red tube in front of bug sprayer -DONE!! |

Ha!
Yozh, thanks for the video. That looks like a pain in the arse... What were the symptoms that lead to this process, and did it fix the problem?

You guys have a sense of humor alright. It should have sound. I don't know what happened there. Had to convert .avi to .mov then do editing. I'll check. Thanks.

TDIwyse, no symptoms. Decided to change based on mileage and Kris' experience in changing his. The adapter one (with 2 square seals) looked quite deformed. I'm glad I had changed them. For a bit of effort it's a cheap insurance.

Hard to say. With change came adaptations and xHP. I would say it's smoother, but I did not have serious complaints before, except the programming that xHP now fixed. For me it was more of a preventive action.
