according to the city of chicago.. I can run 2 red lights each cost 100 dollar and still 50 less than those god damn tinted window tickets. Does it means people who care about their skin health and car, has committed a serious crime than a god damn red light runner ?..Bravo Chicago.. Bravo... |

Damnnnnnnn Just had dinner in chicago with some friends to come back to the lot with a 250 parking ticket!!! I am registered/Plated in Indiana. Should I waste a day in court being an out of state driver?? Anyone had a similiar case?

Yeah, he is in the right, but the ticket was written, so he has to respond. Unfortunately, this might mean a day in court, but you could potentially raise bloody hell because the law is on your side and you are out of state.

I got a bunch of tickets with my IN plates back in the day. They ended up sending all the tickets to my parents who bitched at me so I ended of paying. Agree, that's a bunch of BS and I would just toss it out the window.

My advise to everyone: take pictures of your car with your plate visible before the installation of tint. When you receive a tint ticket, contest it in court, print out your pictures of your car WITHOUT tint and show those to the judge and tell him the ticket was issued in error. This is how I got rid of my last (and only) tint ticket.

Old post, but it gets me mad how Chicago thinks they are special and don't have to follow state laws. I'm thinking of getting tints and my solution to Chicago being an ass about it is to not shop in the city. I will just avoid going to the restaraunts and stores in the city. And if I really need to go to the city I will just find a ride. Maybe Chicago politicians will think twice about this law if more people refuse to shop in the city because of the risk of getting a $250 ticket.

Aren't dense tints illegal because the police want to be able to see if you're stuffing "illicit materials" into your glovebox and such when you get pulled over? Well, that, and other things like public indecency for having sex in your car, and for traffic light/crime/toll booth cameras to be able to identify your face if you were to run a light, flee a crime scene, or run through the I-pass toll booth lane that doesn't have an automated arm, for example.

you can take your car to your tint shop, and they can put a light meter on your window and then you should take a picture.
when nino did my tints I took several pictures of my car with the tint and the light meter on my window. It showed 45% light passing through (50% tint + 5% from factory window tint)

I heard some people still getting screwed in chicago bc courts use "home rule" where the city overrides state law and makes it illegal to have any % in front.
Im going to court aug 3 .... so we'll see if they make me pay 250 even though i only have 50% |

well, from a legal standpoint, since Chicago is under home rule, they can pass laws that are more restrictive than the state and can enforce them within their limits. So if you are within their laws and have to pay for a ticket, yes you are getting screwed. Disagreeing with the law is another matter entirely.
