Irv, could you confirm that after the ED trip, the car can be sent to any dealership in the country? So if I arrange to purchase a vehicle for the ED program through your dealership, I can still have it delivered to my local dealership after my ED trip?

hey Jedi here's my deal:
i worked with jim archibald @ sonnen motors in san rafael ca. i ordered a 2007 328i sedan artic metallic/beige int with the following: steptronic, comfort access, power seats, fold down seats and bmw assist. using the ed invoice info from bimmerfest http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=158308 i came up with the following price:
base ed invoice 27,720
steptronic: 1210
comfort access: 455
power front seats: 905
fold down seats: 430
bmw assist: 685
metalic paint: 430
dest/handeling: 695
Total ed invoice is ....... 32,530 as compared to msrp 37,745. Keep in mind for an ed car i was not charged 180 training fee or a maco charge which i would not pay no matter what. Now taking the 32,530 i offered xxxx amount over the ed invoice and jim accepted my offer. i am totally happy as i really did get an outstandind deal and had a great buying experience. for my travel expenses i have orbitz:
Purchase Confirmation

Passenger: KEN XXXXXXXXXXX
Airline ticket number(s): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ticket type: electronic (e-ticket)

Total airfare: $542.31 (including taxes)
Service fee: $10.99
Total trip cost: $553.30 USD

I am staying at a luxury hotel and am paying 139 eu/ night. i prefer the hotel i'm staying at but i did find rooms for 70 usd /night.

Ed is the only way to go in my opinion. even after travel expenses i still come out way ahead. i am a current e46 2003 325i owner and BMW has ruined me for other cars. i test drove an acura tl, lexus is250 .... and nothing drives like a bimmer ! ed is allowing me to get the car i want.
i hope this helps,
ken

Hi,
Can Irv or someone who is familiar with ED tell me, if I can show up at ED center in Munich, do the paperwork and have BMW center there ship it to Harms themselves for an extra fee? I might be doing a stopover in Munich on a multiple city iternary and wanted to know if it is possible? Does the ED centre do that, or do I have ot physically drive it to Harms and drop off myself.

I might be in a rush and jetlagged, and the thought of learning about signals and roadsigns just to drop it to Harms is not too appeasing to me.

yeah, that can happen, but there's like a 500.00 'fee' that the dealership that you didn't buy from but where you'd be picking it up from, would charge you, and possibly a cold shoulder... or your local dealer may not even do it for you...

i'm not sure BMW dealerships are obligated to work together or not...

it doesn't appear to be as autonomous as say buying a digicam from circuitcity and they ship one over from another store's stock w/o anything against you.

Yes you can arrange for someone to drive it over for you. Email Thomas at Harms or Bernhard at the delivery center to get details. But it is pretty easy to go from the delivery center in Freimann to the drop off place at Harms in Garching -- only a 10 minute drive, most of it on the Autobahn and then a couple two-laners. If I were in your shoes I would be ecstatic at the opportunity to do a multi-city itinerary IN MY NEW 335!

Best of luck!

Question

i ordered a 335i sedan w/ ED yesterday. didn't get the delivery date confirmed yet, but i asked for dec 21st which sounded doable.

my big worry is the weather conditions in Munich late december.

anyone who picked up around that time of the year? what should i expect?

i have the sport package so probably not great to drive if there's snow/ice, etc. i want to drive the car to france, and drop it off in paris to fly back to the US from there

It is illegal to drive the car on summer tires if there is snow so make sure you are not ordering with summer tires ifyou plan to drive in winter.

Maybe if this is too much of an imposition you should do "U.S." delivery.

No, not any dealer in the country.

You can see if your local dealer will be nice enough to do a courtesy delivery but they are under no obligation.

Many dealerships will do this but whether they say yes or no depends on a number of factors.

You will pay a minimum of $500 for this btw.

You should expect moderate to heavy snow, if it's anything like last year. And you will need M+S rated tires since it is illegal to drive on summer tires if there is snow. If you were to have an accident, for example, and you don't have the right tires, not only do you get ticketed but you would be considered the cause of the accident and 100% responsible for any damages to another vehicle. Your insurance coverge mightn't cover this if you don't have the right tires.

Harms has done this for a fee in extenuating circumstances (i.e. snowstorm and person didn't have winter tires on) but they don't make a habit of it nor do I think they want to just because someone can't be bothered to do this himself.

I have ZSP so that should come w/ summer performance tires from what I understand.

Is there a possibility to get the factory to pre-install all-seasons instead? Anyone done that? I don't think there are winter tires out there that would fit on the ZSP 18" wheels.

Best would be for them to give me the car with all seasons, and have them change them to summer after i drop it off ... yeah, i know i'm dreaming but that'd be sweet...

In my experience with other dealers, most of them do not want to do courtesy deliveries as they didn't get the order in the first place ( because they aren't ED friendly ) and even though they make more on service/warranty work, they don't want to do it.So, on redelivery,my customers get to relive their ED by driving it home, the furthest so far is 1K..

As ED usually doesn't come out of dealer allocation, and the dealer can make profit beyond the ED invoice, there doesn't seem to be a real downside for the dealers (unless they believe that all potential buyers will flock to them). On the west coast of Florida almost all dealers will process a ED, and the one that doesn't has lost a lot of repeat business.

so it's on you to talk to the dealer that you want the courtesy delivery sent to, and not the work of the dealer you've given the business to for ED to see to it your car is pointed the right direction?

So if there is no snow on the roads, one is fine driving on summer tires?

i have a quick question regarding those who have done ED, basically, if you trade in your car, then what do you drive in the period of when you trade it in and actually receive the car? do most people just rent a car for the month or so period?

I assume that if you trade in a car and opt for ED, the dealership gets the trade in and you are on your own for the period between final transaction and delivery in U.S. Just a word to the wise, always check CarMax prior to making a trade with a dealer. Often, CarMax will give you more cash than the new car dealer will in a trade in. The benefit of a trade in is that you decrease the bottom line price, and you are only taxed on the bottom line.
