Potential BMW 335d owner

Good Morning all
I am considering buying a used 2011 335D with 76,000 miles on it. Most of the maintenance was completed at BMW over the life of the car. This car has all the M options there is. Does anyone have any tips on what I should look for before handing over the money to take ownership? The car is 100% except new tires that were installed last year. The car passed smog at the beginning of August.

I really appreciate the help/advice. I am not looking to get burned again like with the VW recall for smog.

Take it to get a PPI. I recommend Euro Auto Spot in Mirimar, they deal with a bunch of n54's so they know what to look out for. I also recommend Indepedent Motorcars in Mirimar as well, I got a PPI from them and they did a full body inspection as well and pointed out touch up paint and body work that I didn't even notice.

I know i am going to get flack for this question but what does N54 mean? I am new to the BMW thing.

I know the car has been inn an accident before it has a rebuilt title. That is why I will get it for 10K and it is cheap on my insurance. It has every M Sport option there was to order at the time. I also know that at 65K something called carbon cleaning was done. I will ask that the car get looked at by BMW.

The N54 is the engine for the 335i's. The 335D does not come with the N54.

I'm not too familiar with diesels but have heard some things from others.
Do some research online before buying to see what you have to do for maintenance etc.

If for some reason you end up looking at N54's feel free to reach out

If you end up getting an n54, Jeef does great work! Been going to him since I got my car 3.4 years ago.

Dealership Reviews

Got into a minor car accident over the weekend (2nd in 2 1/2 months). I think it's time to let the old car go. Thinking bout purchasing an e90/2 through one of these dealerships, wondering if anyone had any thoughts to share about em (particular the non-bmw ones):

Shift LA
DriveTime Fresno
BMW Santa Maria CA

Shift and DriveTime in particular, I'm not particularly fond of buying BMWs (or any german cars for that matter) from anyone else but dealership. Have this negative stigma that theres "shady shit" going on with dealers without the badge of honor. My mechanic's shared the same sentiment about one such dealer where I used to live (they were basically selling junk at "fair market price"). Maybe this is all just unfounded assumption and I'm completely wrong about these kinds of dealerships (after all, everybody starts somewhere).

Anyway. Thoughts?

No input on those 3 dealers. Don't think they are too close to San Diego?

No matter where you buy the car from, make sure to inspect it with a mechanic that's knows their way around e9x's and check for body repairs.

Newbie with DME question

Hello All,
I am new to bimmerpost. And already i have a question.
I have an 2011 cpe with N55. I have recently upgraded to a larger FMIC. I also have a Cobb Accessport, however, when i tried to install a new program, I got an error , the ROM on my car is unsupported by the AP. It used to be supported. Earlier in the year, I took car to dealer for service, and they changed the rom on the car. Prior to taking the car in, I had placed stock rom back on the car. I didn't put the stage 1 back on the car immediately. So in june, I wanted to put the tune on my car and it wouldn't take. I emailed Cobb Support, and they said I need to have DME upgraded. I went to Bimmerspeed to have FMIC installed, which they did. They couldn't upgrade the DME, or perhaps do not have to machine/ tools, etc.
Has anyone seen this issue before, who do I go to to fix this, so I can can put a new tune back on my car. HELP!

What ROM do you have? Did you send it over to Cobb?

I recommend you look into running MHD on the android device

I will have to check, but, it was a stage 1 for a 2011, e92 335i auto trans. Only mods at the time, was a Cobb Charge pipe and Cobb drop in filter. I had put the tune on the car, and noticed modest performance gains, mostly a torque increas, but it was noticeable.
Sometime after that, say 58k miles, my water pump started to fail, so i took car in to dealer, after putting stock tune back on the car. I kept the car stock for several months, I guess I was waiting for summer to come around, before I would reinstall the tune. I had no idea that they would tamper/ switch the original programming on the car, so i found out waay after the fact, like this past June. I work in Escondido, however drive a nissan to work, to and only drive the Sled during weekend when i have time, and good weather.

I could see doing that, had I not spent already like $700 on the Cobb, and do not want to waste $700 bucks away, and then spend another $300-$400, on another device, meanwhile withstanding the uncertainty of whatever BMW of San Diego did to my car to prevent an outside tune. I would rather have somebody, upgrade or downgrade the DME, for a nominal fee of course, so that I can use the accessport.

Someone on here must have seen this issue before and have solved it, unless I am the unluckiest bastard in San Diego! Im starting to feel that way, lol.

My car is Bone stock and largely unmolested, except for the FMIC. i have had relatively few issues with it, the most critical being the water pump.

I am not sure what BMW put on my car, but when I connected the Accessport, this is the exact message I got on the device:

"The AP has identified a new vehical ROM version. If the ID contains 96A0B or 9780B your DME updated by an authorized BMW dealer before using your AP. otherwise please contact technical support so we may add your ROM support."

After that, I reached out to Cobb, and they basically sat on there hands and said I need to have the dealer or a shop upgrade/ change the DME in my car.
