hi there, he is on CIC.C16 which he thinks is V41 or V42 , so looks like bmw live is only available on later software....but I would think BMW online and internet should still work though

I sent a PM to jezzy but he suggested I also post here so others can respond as well.
I'm doing a similar retrofit for the 2006 330i, the only difference is that I already retrofitted BMW Assist w/Bluetooth and Sirius a few years back and I have a Combox Telematics instead of the Combox Media. I also have Sirius in my CIC and will be routing the Sirius antenna from the trunk to the CIC so I can use it's Sirius tuner (and I can pull the old tuner out). So I'm trying to build a list of the parts (outside of the CIC/CID/Combox hardware and the Center Console trim) that I need for doing everything and wanted input. So I'm thinking I need the following for the CIC retrofit, which appears to be pretty straightforward: 65129239214 - CIC Navigation (US Spec w/SDARS and IBOC) 84109248181 - Combox for Telematics 65829240958 - iDrive CIC Controller 65829211969 - CID Display 61136954526 - CID Power Housing 61119185171 - LVDS Display Cable 84109237656 - Glovebox USB port 61129255716 - Glovebox USB cable 51169143599 - Glovebox USB Bracket 51169169999 - iDrive Controller Trim 51169155970 - iDrive Controller Bracket 51169170917 - iDrive Controller Frame 65126958411 - CIC Front Cover The Combox (6NF/6NR/6FL) parts is where it gets murky for me so maybe you guys can clear it up. 84109239396 - 6NF Baseplate (Music/Video/Etc) 84109237654 - Armrest AUX/USB (6pin AUX / Switchable) 61119202749 - Combox USB cable from Combox to 6NF Baseplate 61119129360 - Combox USB cable from Combox to USB/AUX 61119200890 - FBAS Cable from 6NF Baseplate to CIC (Provides video from 6NF Baseplate to CIC) ??????????? - USB/AUX to Combox AUX ??????????? - USB/AUX to 6NF Baseplate AUX I'm kinda lost on the AUX cabling part as you can see above. I was also wondering what the length of the USB cables are and the best way to route them? I'd like to route them the technical OEM way which is down the left side, under the seat and into the center console, but I've seen others talk about routing them straight down the center. Am I missing anything else? Last edited by Dracon; 03-15-2015 at 07:29 AM.. |

I routed mine from the trunk to the center console. I was never able to run them under the carpet.. Way to hard and didn't want to tear the carpet! What a nightmare..

Fair enough, there has to be a way to get longer cables for that. I know the HSD cable with the angled connectors is pretty long. I wonder if it could be possible to have custom cables made up with the right connectors and any length needed.

I'm wondering if a cable like this one would work for the USB connections so I can route them around the OEM way.

It isn't sold by BMW anymore. Good thing to refresh your solder skills too . As for routing these the OEM way. You'll need an extension to have it be at the USB port in the arm rest. BMW has a hub to do this as the USB cable isn't long enough. I removed my center console and routed all USB, Aux, GPS, and about to have satelite radio antenna Under carpet and back to Combox area under trunk flooring. Isn't too hard.the wires are basically running on the side of the drive shaft hump under the carpet.

I'm also assuming I'll need a socket for the USB/AUX to connect the pins into? |

Terminal Socket pins - 61138366260. These are kinda hard to make on your own. I'd say find a junk yard from some crashed E90 and gather yourself a few pins from harnesses. Then solder to these Jacketed 4 Conductor Wire Super Bright LEds 22 gauge You can use any 22 Gauge but I choose the jacketed to protect the wires from chaffing against anything. 6PIN socket - 61136954554.

I updated the part numbers on my original post with the USB cable part you supplied, I also added my part numbers for my CIC/CID/Controller/Combox. Also updated the 6NF baseplate part number, the original part number I listed doesn't appear to support video. There was a part number change for the 6NF baseplate on 03/11 (right when 6NR was introduced) which I'm pretty sure added the pins required for video since it's a part of 6NR. There's two other older revisions of the part number (84109158069-up until 03/10 and then 84109223098-from 03/10 to 03/11). I'm pretty sure terminator2k2 discovered that 8069 doesn't have the video pins and I'm not sure about 3098. |

Really? and ~12 ft wasn't enough to route down the side and over to the center console?
Wow! I guess we'll see once I start laying out the cabling when it all arrives. Probably means I'm going to need a really long RG174 cables for rerouting the Sirius connection from the trunk to the CIC. Luckily I can get those custom code to any length I want easily. I'll probably ask them if they can do FAKRA HSD cables too. Maybe I can have custom length cables made up if the ones I have are too short. |

They'll make a violet FAKRA plug to right angle jack at any length you want which is perfect for the straight connection in the trunk and right angle connector at the CIC. I'll also have to order a GPS extension cable for my wife's Audi which I'm adding navigation to as well, although retrofitting nav in the Audi is *MUCH* easier than the BMW. When I was talking to tturbolife when he retrofitted his CIC, I referred him there to get the cable made and it worked great for him. I sent them an email this morning to see if they can make the FAKRA HSD cables for the USB connections as well since I didn't see the connectors on their website. |

The ones I got off eBay are supposed to be 355cm long which is 11.647ft. I might have to shave the connectors down if I can't get them replaced with the proper keyed jack, but I'd rather modify a replaceable cable instead of modifying the connectors on the Combox and the USB+Baseplate.
